Girls, how would you reject someone who likes you but you don't like them?

I'm just curious as to what you would do.
Would you chose to just avoid them, and hope it wears off.
or would you strait up tell him?
(By the way, I'm in college so if you can say what you would have done back in the day.. Just to make things more accurate for my generation.)
