It was just announced that Elizabeth Taylor passed away this morning at the age of 79. She was just coming into her own when I was born, so her movies were considered important during my formative years!!! I can't remember when there wasn't an Elizabeth Taylor. She mesmerized almost every little girl my age with her performance in National Velvet. I remember the hoopla when she stole Eddie Fisher from Debbie Reynolds & when she first started dating Richard Burton who was married at the time. Back then, that was just unheard of publically!!! She also brought awareness of AIDs to the forefront helping to raise millions of dollars for research & development. What are your memories of Elizabeth Taylor.

I hadn't heard that yet, LadyM. This is a loss. Legend she truly was. I remember all of that as well. At one time, she was the most beautiful woman in the world (well, to me anyway). These past few years she has had so many medical problems and was in pain most of the time. I enjoyed all of her roles in the movies especially in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Paul Newman and Burl Ives. Not many of the good ones left anymore. We felt like they were part of our family we were so familiar with them. The actors (if you can call them that) today just don't compare with all of the ones that we 'knew' when we were younger. And it shows in the caliber of movies that are being foisted upon us now.

Mind you, Johnny Depp's good. And Rufus Sewell. And Richard E Grant. Hugh Grant, on the other hand ...

Yes, yoyo, she was a work of art within itself!!! Her portrayal as Cleopatra was also another timeless classic!!! She had a natural beauty that few have ever achieved!!! jazzsue, I agree that Johnny Depp is a great actor. I like Hugh Grant, but the words "great" nor "timeless" comes to mind when I think of him. I must admit that I've never heard of Rufus Sewell nor Richard E Grant so I can't comment on them!!!

Personally even though I might not have always agreed with her Moral values and such, she was an awesome lady and a wonderful actress and a beautiful woman. I can remember a lot of people at one time wanting to be like her, or wish that they could act as well as she could. Since hearing of her passing a little over 24 hrs. ago makes me wish some channel would do a dedication of her movies for like a day or so just so I would have a chance to see some of her much loved classics as well.

I think part of her charm was her lack of moral values!!! She was one of the first women that I had seen that didn't give a crap what anybody else thought!!! You just had to admire her strength!!!! I think Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has been showing her movies all day today & giving bits & pieces of her life!!!.

LadyMarissa, I will always remember her astounding beauty who has mesmerized like us with her movies like Cleopatra, Cat on A Hot Tin Roof, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and many other unforgettable classics. Like all of us, I suppose we could not escape the harsh realities of aging which really took a toll on both her health and appearance. Yet, I have to credit her for her undying philanthropy spirit who despite her daunting health conditions where she broke her hip no less than 5 times, overcoming her congestive heart failure, survived a benign brain tumor, skin cancer, faced life-threatening bouts with pneumonia twice and Alzheimer - had been actively supporting causes for the poor and AIDS. Even off the screen, she is raking in reputation in the arts and entertainment circles. Her astute collections of diamonds and artworks which over the years had launched her as a designer and elite. She even had her own perfumes namely "Passion", "White Diamonds", and "Black Pearls", which were believed to have brought an estimated US$200 million sales. Not forgetting to mention, that even till today her "White Diamonds" fragrance is still amongst the top 20 favorites in the world. She is indeed an admirable person both on and off the screen and Hollywood has indeed lost another remarkable actress - Elizabeth Taylor (February 27, 1932 – March 23, 2011).

This is quite sad. I loved Elizabeth Taylor's beauty and her grace as well. She has one of the most beautiful eyes I have seen. I have seen Cleopatra before and she is such a beauty to behold. So gracious and so perfect and ageless. Even at 79, you can still see her beauty and grace when I watched her on some of her tv appearances in the past year or so. It's sad that she's gone but definitely, she will always be remembered.

Truly a great loss. . .for movies, and for the world. She was a trendsetter in so many ways. I hope she has finally found true happiness and peace.

I really don't have any vibrant memories of Liz... she was just part of the zeit geist. But I must say that I was surprised that she was 'only' 79... I thought she was older.
