Sales for something you need just at the right time. Ever felt like that?

Most sales for clothes are at the wrong time here. Bathing suits in February. When it's sub-zero, I really want to buy a bathing suit, NOT! I don't want to try on tank tops and shorts in dressing rooms that have drafts so cold they could kill mice. That's when I go to our local, family owned regular stores and/or consignment shops and buy more layers of warm clothes. Right now the church owned stores have 1 bag sales for warm clothes. 2 dollars a bag. It was 3 degrees in Saranac Lake last night and 18 here. We were going to have Spring, but Mother Nature changed her mind. It's now below freezing during the day (28) except for my roof which seems to be thawing and the road where the tarmac is heating up and causing trouble in the road again.
So when there are sales on things I need when I actually need them,( not like air conditioners on sale in october or november when it's cold up here and we have to find another place to store it and it may not even have a very long warantee) I really appreciate it.
Hydrogen Peroxide is on sale in my area. I will need it to kill lots of nasty things in my basement since the sump pump messed up and now the wet spots are growing mold. Lots of mold from the smell of things now. So the floor and probably the walls in places, need to get cleaned up.
I know, chlorox is better for that, but not for the environment and me. Also I'll probably have to do it many times this spring. If I use bleach, it will be for the final time before summer and hope the fumes from that don't half kill me.
So how are the timing of sales in your area? Do they have sales at the right time? Do they have things on sale at the wrong time? Do you find local stores more responsive to your needs than the national or chain stores?

I catch a good sale every now and again but for the most part, it is the wrong thing at the wrong time..lol..maybe you could use just a teeny tiny itty bitty drop of bleach and run upstairs.
National chains usually have the cheaper prices but to be honest I enjoy the local stores better.

I like your last sentence the best. I really didn't like National Chains when they had all those short shirts, you know the ones that show your belly? Since I have a long torso and a belly that needs to be hidden (I'm 53 yrs old, think serious gut), I had to buy my shirts at 2nd hand stores.
How come I'm not getting any notices about you answering my discussions? I'm getting everyone elses?
Thanks and take care.

Yeah, that's the weird thing. It's either all or nothing.

Personally I feel that the sales always occur when I am broke, lol.. When I have the money to spend then I pay full price *sad*
The sales always occur at the wrong times here, like you say the swim suits are like all out and on sale in January here. Who in the world is thinking warmth in the midst of winter. Perhaps those going on vacation, bur realistically right after Christmas who can afford to.
No most of the local stores here raise the price 3 times as much because they figure since they are close and near by stores that we will not have alternatives and are forced to buy.
I have become a bit more of a smart shopper though, I have pre-planned purchases when they are on sale so that I don't run out last minute and get it at double the price. But it takes careful planning though.

Yes, it does take careful planning. It also does take $ at the right time. Good luck and I hope it works out for you soon!

I totally agree with you hardworkingurl! Sales would be just when you have no extra money for it!
Nonetheless, i plan my purchases ahead. I just don't buy just because it's sale. Sometimes sale makes you buy impulsively, simply because they are cheaper than their regular price, which as i have been informed by those mall friends, have already been jacked up 2x or 3x just so when they go on sale, it's still the profitable price.

Price jacking is illegal in my state. They do that here and they will pay one really high fine. They will also be closely watched for years afterward. Many people keep track of prices on an item they want. They go every week. If they find that it goes up and then goes on sale for the original price, they call the Attorney General about it. We don't take that in NY State.

The sales here are always at the 'wrong' time...that's because most stores are getting rid of their extras for that particular season. And that exactly is the point of these sales. If they have a sale for bathing suits in summer, everyone would be rushing to buy them and the store will not get the profit that they would generally get.
IF I check out sales (like hardworkinggirl, I tend to be broke or something big which needs immediate attention comes on at the homefront... when a sale is going on), I buy in advance for the kids or myself. I have enough storage areas in my home and organize and categorize. Depending on the season, I pull out the storage boxes and arrange the required clothes in the kids' cupboards and mine.

I still don't understand why they put out bathing suits in sub-zero weather. I can't see how they get anyone to buy them, reg sale or on sale.

That make more sense then starting sales in sub-zero for summer. Take care.

Here I think that usually things start being put on about a month before they should be put out. There are already bathing suits out and they should really be coming out in April instead of March. Of course I appreciate this as it gives me a chance to shop around and see which ones I like more for the best price.
Usually things like that don't bother me so much, I feel like as long as I can get a good deal or have coupons I am fine.

I think things come out here based on California or some place. We can't even find decent cold weather clothing unless we go to a ski shop or snowmoblie shop. Then when it's sub-zero and you're freezing, they put out swim suits. I can't stand that. National chains really irritate me that way. When it's sub-zero out, in February or January, I want more warm clothes and sales on those, I'm not trying on a bathing suit.

Of course, it is how they get rid of the clothes at the end of the season. Most of the store is like this but there are couple of the store here still do clearances and sales throughout the year with both summer andwinter clothes.
I would look for the summer clothes in the winter because I like summer clothes and I will buy them andwait for the summer but I rarely buy winter clothes in the summer even in the winter because I don't like the winter, I hate winter clothes.

I used to not like winter clothes but now that I have arthritis, I really appreciate them. I'm not leaving my house in sub-zero weather to go buy summer clothes. A snow mobile suit, yes, tank tops and shorts, no.
