My parents are in Italy right now for their vacation. I went home to Vancouver to housesit for them for 3 weeks. Its quite a vacation for me. I've gotten to see a bunch of friends. I'm also doing a day trip to the states and then driving back up through bc to the Yukon.

Thanks much for the BR's! Mostly I just take mini-vacations because I think I already live in the best place in the world. Well, almost. I suppose for the ultra rich there are better places, but here it is beautiful and also somewhat affordable. So I drive an hour or so to the ocean whenever I have the urge. I love the Pacific Ocean.

For me it is the Palm Desert, not far from Palm Springs, CA. It is 1/2 day's drive from Las Vegas and "countrified" yet quite near excellent shopping opportunities. We have hot summers, temperate spring and fall, mild winters with snow on the mountaintops and sunshine almost every day. There aren't a lot of jobs out here, so it is best for retired folks like me.

That sounds lovely! I've heard a lot of retired folks go down to palm springs. I've known a few from Canada who own a RV and go down there for 6 months during the winter here.

Sounds like a great vacation, actually I just had a week of but I didn't go anywhere. I don't have a car and I hate flying so I never really go anywhere on vacation but when I was still home in Germany I got to go to Italy, Paris, England Austria and Jugoslavia

We didn't have a lot of money, so my husband and I just spent Christmas in Toronto (about an hour from where we live). We spent two days there, with all kinds of extras, and only spent about $500. It was wonderful. Our next vacation is going to be to Montreal Quebec, and we're going to pay for it with my Air Miles.

Airmiles are great! I'm saving up to use them on my trip to south america. My trip will probably be delayed. I owe $2000 in taxes and I'm broke. I have about $800 towards my trip so far with airmiles.

I traveled to Vancouver in the summer last year and had my daughter's first birthday in Victoria, Vancouver Island, Canada Day in Powell River and my birthday in Vancouver. This year we traveled to Colombia to the Caribbean coast. We flew from London to Cartagena De Indias via Madrid and Bogota. It was lovely to look around the old town of Vancouver and go out for days to nearby places. We also went to Santa Marta and out for days from there too. My disabled son is in a wheelchair so it was hard going along the narrow sidewalks and bumpy land. I found the buses in Vancouver were all wheelchair accessible. So that trip was a lot easier and with a direct flight less tiring. However I really like South America and would like to return.

I would love to go to Italy. The last vacation I had was last year and we went to Indiana to vist my b/f's family. They have an amazing place with a huge pond on one side and a lake on the other. We did paddle boats and fishing. It was a very relaxing time. We have been going there for the past three years when I get time off work. We are supposed to go again the end of June. I would like to go somewhere different this year too though. Maybe a beach I have never been too.
