Is giving money ( also in form of investments into insitutions, education , etc.) a good or even effective way to fight poverty? And is it fair to take governmental funds ( which also come from taxes from hard workers) to help poor people even though some of them are poor by own laziness? What are pros and cons?

Pro: as you give, you become known as 'one who gives in that way.' I'll buy toys & videos for kids, but only give money to churches.

You are right if the rich persons gives the money to poor people for their study then they can do very well. If our politicians spend some money for poor people then everyone can get the education but our politicians is not good persons they gathered money only for their own purpose even they have lots of money but they dont want to spend for poor people.

You know you make a good point is a person poor because of lack of opportunity? lack of education? a bad economy? or a lazy lifestyle? It's a tough question. I think it depends on the area within a community. Some people are poor because they are disabled in some manner and are unemployable. Some were raised in a lifestyle of living of the "system" as a way of life and have no motivation to do better. For example if you've seen the movie Precious, the mother tells the girl to quit school and go sign up for welfare as though she has no other potential to do better than the lifestyle her mother settled for. I do feel there is no easy answer. But giving people job training if they are unable to go to college. Entry level jobs outside of retail that one can earn a decent living at. Tiered rates for childcare so if you are employed but not making alot you can still afford to go to work and show you are trying to provide for your family. I think reforming the food stamp system so it's like WIC and you can only get nutritious foods; no more chips or soda or other junk food items. Sadly there is no exact solutions just band-aid's.

I don't think it's the best way. Some of them might use the money effectively but many won't. Sometimes that is the reason for their poverty. It's best to donate to organizations that fight poverty as they will know and have better ideas on how to help those people.

I believe giving money to the poor people is not a way at all to fight poverty. It will rather be utilized in such a way that it can create some permanent job opportunities.

I could really open a can of worms with this one. I believe that given donations to a valid charity is wonderful. However, I would like to know what my money is really being used for. We donate to several legitamite charities but have now idea how the money is used. I say this because they say it helps firefighter and it families. But is that really true. This is just one example of many. I sure hope so. As for help the goverment support low income families. It really ticks me off that they can sit at home and do absolutely nothing and receive a paycheck. Now I know this isn't the case with all families. Unfortunately, I believe applies to most low income families. I know the children need assistance but why can't their parents work like the rest of us. Then there's the people that stand on the street corner with a sign that say will work for food. Heck, some of them look quite capable of looking for a job. Have you ever offered one of them a meal. Yes, I have you know the guy refused. Pro: helping others Con: people abuse the systems currently in place

giving money to people is not always effective. most of the time people who currently don't have much money wouldn't know how to manage it if they were handed some. we know of instant millionaires who lived like kings for a few days, and ended up being much poorer than they even were before the money arrived.

I don't think giving money is the solution to fight poverty. I think the best way is to provide them jobs where they can earn money. government can open school for these people to teach them simple basic skill to work freely. and people (entrepreneur) can hire them. with that all elements involved and help each other :)
