jeeze i looked into it when my cat gideon (rip) got diabetes and the costs of pet insurance is a LOT and doesnt cover crap! some of course dont cover pre-existing which ok that makes sense.. some dont cover any meds.. seems like they mostly just cover vaccines and maybe a discount on other stuff but heck once i added up the costs per pet its cheaper for me to pay out of pocket!
drives me nuts since this month alone ive put out about $1,000 and another $1,000 soon for treatment of heartworms (rescue dog) so it'd be nice if there was a really good option out there but most my pets are never sick except maybe towards the end of their lives
there was a state that was trying to get pets as a tax write off man i would LOVE that!
do you have pet insurance? have you found a good one?

I don't have pet insurance but do have something to say about it.
I think our health insurance should also cover our pets. When you think about it, people with pets tend to be healthier. Pets keep us younger, happier and more active than if we didn't have any or had maybe only a goldfish or two. They help to stave off severe depression, too.
In that sense, they keep us healthier, thus causing us to use our health insurance less, thereby saving the insurance company money. If they insured our pets as well, they'd most likely have to pay out much less money for our health than they do now for people who cannot afford pets.
Makes sense to me!
Oh, and yes, I know about that tax write off. I think I remember writing a discussion about it quite awhile ago.

HI moonlitmagikchild,
This is really amazing how much money you need to get your pets treated. But even though it might be expensive you still have the option of getting health insurance for your pets. Unfortunately from where I am ( India) there is no such thing as pet insurance so what ever cost of treatment, we have to bear it ourself. Yes no insurance company would insure the pre existing diseases and they are 100% right in refusing to do so for obvious reasons.

seems like the pet insurance was gonna be over $100 bucks a month when their yearly shots are less than that..

We don't have pet insurance, but my mother does, for her dog. Hudson runs around a lot on the farm, gets into porcupines, skunks, kicked by the occasional horse, and all kinds of other things. He does OK, but if anything major were to happen, Mom has the insurance to cover him.
