Tattoos and teenagers

My husband and I have alot of tattoos on us and my kids are teens. The oldest is turning 18 at the end of the month. She wants to get a tat for her b-day, which I don't really have a problem with. Her brother, who will be 16 next month wants to get on for his b-day too. I feel he is too young to get a tattoo at this age. What do you think? If they were your kids, would you let them express themselves, or would you make them wait until they were older?

I don't have kids yet, but I do have tattoos and piercings. I had to wait until I was 18 and yes, both of my parents have tattoos. My parents thought that when you turn 18 you can do as you please with tattoos. My mom actually paid for my first one as my birthday present. I had thought long and hard about what I wanted and I am still happy with that tattoo today. Personally if they were my children I would be okay with the 18 year old daughter getting a tattoo as long as she is sure that it's what she wants. As for the 16 year old son I would make him wait until he turned 18 and is sure of what he wants. I'd say wait till 18 because it is a lifetime long thing, but again I don't have kids I can only go off of my own experiences.

I think i would let them do what they want, since they are already 16 + they are getting to the age of almost an adult, so i'd let em do it.

I think that I would let the 16 year old wait until he also is turning 18 & get his. He may not even want one by then, if he does though then it will be his decision to make. Of course, they are your children & the decision is totally up to you. I know you will make the best decision for you & your family. Have a blessed day.

I think only when they turn to adult, like 18 or 21, I mean while living under my roof they won't do it, now I have nothing against it I just want they to never regret.

I haven't had a tattoo yet in my entire life, but I am planning to have one soon. Before I thought having a tattoo is for people who just wanna have fun in their bod or should I say they just wanna paint their body. But lately I realized it is a form of an art. It should be better If they are older when they do have their tattoo.

i have many tattoos as well and so does my husband. and although my children are young (4 and 5) my husband and i have discussed what we would do if they wanted a tattoo at 15 or 16. My husband is all for it, them having the right to express themselves with body art as we have, however I have some reservations. I have a few tattoos that I wish I didnt have, some spur of the moment thing. If my kids wanted a tattoo at that age I think I would allow it but I would make them think long and hard about what they wanted on their body because there is no going back. It would have to be something that was important to them something that they could see their self with when they are 90 and look back and remember why they got it and have no regrets.
