This nickel could mean a lot to a veteran.

"So why did you send it & all these address labels to ME?" Is the question I have after recieving yet another solication for donations in the mail. I have to wonder just how much these charities are spending to send out this stuff? I now have a drawer full of these return address labels I'll likely never use & the nickel...went into the change jar for the next time we need a snack. Much as I'd like to have cash to give to charity I'm still hovering on the verge of NEEDING charity so there's no way I can give. Yet I keep getting more & more of these solicitations in the mail... Is there no way to inform these people I'm BROKE so they'll stop sending this stuff? Then again, I can actually use the nickel. Maybe I should try to get them to send more...

I keep telling Maggiepie to keep the nickle (or other stuff), then they'll stop sending her stuff.

They'll keep sending it. That's why I have a whole drawer full of those return address labels.

I have often wondered the same uath13 on how I keep getting the personalized mailing labels. It has often crossed my mine how they perhaps were spending so much and perhaps not a lot of donations. But then I suppose some can and do so, so I suppose they do make up for it in the end.

We also receive the "nickel" and labels. We also receive "lap blankets"; calendars; wrapping paper; birthday, christmas, and all occassion cards; pens; book bags; etc. The list goes on and on. If we can use them ourselves, we keep them; and, we rarely send anything to the charity in return. We have a few charities we donate to and they seem to sell our name to other companies that we do not send money; but, they send us things anyway. If the item is something we do not need (or want) and it can be used by someone else we give it away - I gave away 7 different calendars last year and we kept 2 for ourselves. Some items we give to local thrift shops. If it is something we cannot use and that can not be used by someone else (how many labels can a single family use in their lifetime - we toss it in the trash.

Since we pay most of our bills online the number of return address labels in the drawer is building up. Time to just start tossing them away.

Hi, uath.....I will never be able to use up all of the address labels that have been accumulating here on my desk. Then I have note pads, calendars. seasonal stickers and an array of other junk. Years ago I did send a donation to a charity, Paralyzed Vets I think, and since then I've received the labels etc. from charities I've never even heard of even though I've not made any further donations. If there is a way to be taken off of their mailing lists, I've not found it.

Now see I could have actually used a new calendar ( I'm too cheap to buy one ) but nobody sent me one this year. Instead it's more return address labels & a nickel. They need to send me another one so I'll have 2 nickels to rub together.
