What's your experience with e-bay?

I joined e-bay a few years ago but never really bought or sold anything until this month. Mainly because every time i got an e-mail saying i can list an item for free i waisted my time creating add just so i saw i'd still have to pay something which i couldn't because i didn't have a card linked to paypal. I didn't buy anything because of the same reason. But at last i got a card and i recently bought 100 piercing beads for my gf...she always complains she broke another bead or lost one and so on. It was a great deal for me. I got 100 beads for just 8$ and in my country you get one for the same price. Than i decided to sell my old mp3 player called m:robe. I sold it for 30$ and it's not much considering it has 20 gigs of space but i'm happy on the other side that i got rid of it and i got some extra $ on paypal. So because of these recent experience i like e-bay. What about you? Ever purchased anything on line and do you trust these kind of shopping? It can be risky from time to time but i think if you check sellers stats you'll be fine. Share your experience or if you don't buy things on line explain why.

I think buying from eBay is Fine, Feedback can be hard to judge unless someone has 100000 Feedback that is the exception. For the little guys its tough because there are a whole lot of crazy people out there, and of course they are on eBay I just posted a response to a thread about how I just had to deal with a crazy lady who literally tried to make my life a living you know what because I wasn't able to retract her bids, She couldn't understand that and did everything in her power to try to get me into trouble. Now Mind You She was the one who Bid on my item. I'm sorry to get off base, My Honest Opinion on eBay is if you have some stuff laying around the house just collecting dust throw it on eBay. Other Then That, I honestly would NOT be bothered. eBay has a Monopoly when it comes to online auctions and ever since they merged with PayPal things have only got worse. They have risen the eBay Listing Prices and Final Value Fees, Not to mention if your able to sell your item. PayPal takes a Percentage of the money, Its high way robbery and until another online auction site comes along that can compete I wouldnt try to make a living on there its nothing but heart ache. I had a friend, Who had his PayPal Account Frozen literally for no reason. He was a drop-shipper, So He always had large sums of money in his account which

Sure, She bid on 2 Amazon Gift Certificates, both for $5.00 she thought they were good for any website on the internet even though of course I wrote it was for Amazon. She said I mislead her, and wanted her bid removed. She did a buy it now so it was impossible to remove her bid, to make matters worse she bid on my other auction for the same exact item this one had less then 12 hours left and I dont think you can retract a bid with less then 12 hours. Needless to say, She did EVERYTHING SHE POSSIBLY could to get my eBay account shut down and its still possible its gonna be shut down. She hasn't left me negative feedback ONLY because she Never Paid for the items so it was a completed transaction so I think she cant leave feedback. Stupid Idiot, Had to get that off my chest.

I love it for buying things- things can be found at very good prices on it(and some things you can find on it that you wouldn't be able to find in stores, even after searching for days). But, I love it more for selling. I make and sell metal goods on it. I wish they'd let us post 5 pictures for free though, and always have free insertion fees....

Black-smithed metal things. Yeah, I hate having to start at a lower price. I've had funny experiences with pricing, sometimes if I start one item at 1 dollar it will only go to around 5-10; but, if I start that very same item at around 20-30 dollars, I usually get a couple of bids on it. It is like people use starting price as an *indicator* of quality....

I've purchased and sold items on ebay for about 6 years now. For buying items sometimes you talk to the seller and asked if he or she has a bin "buy it now" price, most of the time they will cut you a deal. But just remember to be honest, polite and respective. For selling an item make sure to take plenty of pictures of the item. Be as detailed with your description and pictures as possible. For example if theres a model number plate of the item take a picture of it. Also I noticed it helps to make a sign of your id name and put it on the picture so the buyers will know that you are the seller and you took these pictures instead of taking them from other website. And the most important thing is don't lie about the item. If its broken state its broken or its been used say its used. These small tips will help you become a bit successful at ebay.

I agree with you when i sell something at local e-bay like site i'm always fair i just exchange things i don't need for fair price. And being polite is a very big plus either if you buy or sell. I didn't use my own picture for m:robe tho because it probably wouldn't be in good resolution. And i stated the condition of item in description so it wasn't like i'm hiding anything. But sadly you don't often find a trader that is as fair as you are because after all the point of trade is to get more for an item than you paid for. But i don't mind, i just hate how easy some people lie into your face in your face. Recently i sold my old coin collection at local dealer and he first offered me 40€ and when i said it's too little he said it would be worth less if he'd count it. Than he said if i want him to count coins and i said yet. He counted 50€ in coins that weren't special and for those that were he said i have plenty of these in a box, i can sell you a kilo wright now. Off course you have them you're a coin collector and trader doh I didn't even want to argue with him because i knew that won't get me anywhere and i settled for 60€ in the end and everyone knows i didn't get what i could but why do people lie all the time to costumers?

I've bought and sold items on ebay and my general experiences with the site have been moderately positive, I think they charge too much in listing fee's and there's a bit of risk involved because you may not sell the items but you'll still have to pay those high listing fee's no matter if you make a sale or not its kind of unfair, but ebay is still a pretty good service site.

I agree that's why i only posted my first item after browsing ebay for like 5 years. Many times i almost started selling something and than realize i needed confirmed paypal and to pay a fee. This time i wanted to start the bidding at 20$ but i started it at 0.99 so it was free to insert item. Thanks for your comment, have a great day

I'm really pleased with ebay and I have been a member of this site for a long time. I have bought things from ebay and by the same token I have also sold a couple of items. It's a nice experience but you have to make sure you research any sellers you make a purchase from otherwise you could experience problems and difficulty. Before I make a purchase I always make sure that the seller has a good reputation rating, that is, 100 hundred per cent and no less. The good thing about ebay is you can find some really nice deals and a lot of things are so cheap. This is definitely the way to shop. Whenever I want to make a purchase ebay is the first site that I check out to see what is on offer. Andrew

Thanks for your comment Andrew i agree with you about most of the things you wrote. I personally also trust those sellers who have say 98,5% rating because it's hard to sell thousand things and nothing goes wrong. Even if one out of 1000 items gets lost or is broken seller doesn't have the 100% rating. On the other side i can sell one thing and have 100% rating and than scam someone saying i have 100% rating. It's amazing how low prices are sometimes i agree. Have a great day

Never had any problems with eBay like the ones your stated, I get free listing emails every so often too and put up some of my old unwanted stuff and someone usually buys something :) I do trust buying and selling on eBay. If I'm buying something I usually check the sellers feedback and assuming it's all good I'll go ahead and make my purchase :) I normally always pay through Paypal though, and it is possible to file a dispute if for example you pay and they don't sell your item! I've never had to do that myself, but it's nice to know I can if I ever need to :)

I have been on ebay many years - primarily buying things. I live in a small town and the selection here is not very big; also, the prices are very expensive. I buy a lot of my things on ebay because I can get good deals. I just bought some bras on ebay - in the stores the selection is poor in my size and the prices are ridiculous. I just bought 6 bras in my size on ebay for the same cost of one bra in a local store. And, they look much nicer than the ones available locally in my size. I have not bought a bra in a store in several years. I also purchase ink for my husbands computer on ebay, I can buy 12 ink cartridges for less than $20 while in the store that would only buy one cartidge (with a little change left over).

You get ink that cheap? Always had problems with printers. Wanted to buy a laser printer but someone told me pictures are low quality. I can also find many things that are way cheaper and it's exact same thing they sell in local stores. These piercing beads on ebay cost 8$ per 100 and here in local store one bead costs 4€. Do the math Thanks for sharing your experience

Frankly, I don't have a pleasant experience in Ebay. At first when I was trying to be a seller. I put my products in Ebay. However, after a month Ebay charged me expensive fee even if I hadn't sold anything yet. This is not reasonable in my opinion. Then later as a buyer, I bought some stamps via Ebay but the truth is I have never received them. I love China

Did you ask for refund for those stamps? I see how paying insertion fees and not selling can really be disappointing. Better luck next time if you'll do business again.

I've been buying through Ebay for years, mostly stuff that I can't get in the shops. I never spend very much money, I think the most expensive item I've ever bought was a second hand computer for about £30. It's only in the last few months that I've started selling on Ebay in a small way - mostly getting rid of some of the old magazines and books that clutter my house up. Not everything sells of course, but my experiences have all been positive so far, a bit of extra money for stuff I'd be throwing out anyway.

That's the best part...you earn with something that would end up in trash. I know you gave a hint but could you be more specific in how well books sell and which and for how much. Just so i get an idea? Thank you for comment, hope to hear from you soon.

I love ebay so much because it's wear I can find really affordable makeup. I've been ordering from ebay for several months, and I usually order or buy stuff from my favorite seller every other week. The prices are just amazing, compared to shopping at the mall where prices are three times more. I'm just lucky because the favorite seller have several payment options. Aside from paypal, she accepts bank deposits which makes it even easier for me especially if my paypal account runs out of funds. I've really enjoyed shopping for makeup, cosmetics and skin care products from ebay because I get to buy them for a much lower price. It seems like they're always on sale. hehe

You just feel like a fool if you pay 3 times as much as you could But sometimes even tho e-bay price is low you end up with the same price if you add shipping fees to the original price. I live in europe and most things i order are from us. And i'm also very impatient. But if you order more items say lipsticks at the same time it's still worth it. Thanks for sharing your e-bay habits

Hi slovenc: My experience with ebay has been amazing. All of the products that I have bought there have arrived at the tikme and you get interesting prices. Ebay has a very good buyers protection. It's really good that you start using this program. Hopefully you'll enjoy your stay there. ALVARO

Yes it's great they have some protection. Otherwise i don't know if anyone would trust first time sellers like i am...sold my first product. I was surprised how fast things i ordered came too. Thanks for sharing your e-bay experience, hope you grab some great deals.

I am a farily new seller and have done pretty good. I have sent out the merchandise the very next day. I like Ebay for shopping also because usually anything I have looked for I found at a very cheap price. Thus far I have had not problems at all with not getting what I paid for. Because Paypal and Ebay are pretty much the same company I feel confident enough that I would not be scammed because Paypal backs up the purchases.

I think there's a good balance between how much buyers want and how much they get from selling on line. That's why it functions so well. I'm glad you trust e-bay and weren't disappointed so far and hope it will stay that way.

I have always wondered how they verify that the object the person is selling still works. I am not sure if they even check if the item is in the condition the seller says it is in. It could be a laptop that doesnt work even though the seller says it works. I wonder about that.

It could happen but than e-bay buyer protection would come in handy. In most deals you can demand a refund if your item isn't working. Otherwise i don't think e-bay would become so trusted.

I've bought stuff on ebay a good bit but I haven't tried selling yet. My mom just started selling stuff on ebay. I helped her list her stuff and it was pretty easy. I would like to start selling soon. I have some stuff here I can get rid of. I need an area of my house that I can get set up to store the stuff and boxes to send it in. I think as long as you are careful buying on ebay can be great. You just have to watch sometimes people will price their stuff more then you would have to pay for it in the store.

Best part is that you get rid of things that just laid around for months in my opinion. Try it And yes there's always danger that you'll overpay an item but that's how market works. Thanks for comment

I like to discuss about ebay, that is one of my favorite sites which is i browse daily. I always buy anything from ebay, i lives in maldives and all the things are very expensive here (3 times compare normal price), i found many interesting thing. I bought dresses, cosmetic, gadget, accessories and many more. I don't like bidding. I always buy an items which is free worldwide shipping. I had some issue as well, the seller suspended or the item is not arrive. I will open a case and usually i got refund or the seller will resend the item. I tried to contact ebay in usa when one time i dispute my item as the seller suspended by ebay, only machine answer my called, and i hope one day ebay will have real person as representative to help their customer.

i usually buy from power sellers with positive feedbacks of 100%. so far, my ebay shopping experience is good. just be kind and responsive. but one time, i never paid for an item since the seller made me wait for 1 month then he replied after and demanding for payment!

Well I have made about 100 dollars off of Ebay so I think that it's going pretty well for me. I get a lot more money for the things I don't want than other places would buy it for. So I am very happy with my experience at Ebay.
