Had your taste of food changed when you were pregnant and after giving birth?

It is very common for pregnant women to have different cravings after we get pregnant, for me, I was very crazy about fruit and vegetables when I was pregnant, always shopped lots of fresh veggies and fruits at grocery, if I don't get to have them each day, I felt uncomfortable and like missing something which led me to sickness. However, since I have had my son, my craving of them is gone, I don't really want neither one anymore, I would eat them but they are notmy first choices when I do food shopping. I always want meat and cheese instead these days, wonder if it has to do with nursing. What do you think?

My wife craved for stuff she normally wouldn't fancy while she was pregnant~! I'm sure you're familiar with these kinds of foodHere are a few: Char Siew Pau, Wanton Mee with lots of fried wanton, Lam Mee....hmmm...I think that's about all I can think of for now. Oh yes, and a lot of spicy stuff~!

Yea when I was pregnant, I was dying for my home food which I couldn't get any because I would have to go to China town to get it which is more than an hour of driving. I wanted spicky food as well when I was pregnant!

I just went through this and I still am. My son is 7months and I'm still adjusting back. My taste for food has decreased because when I was pregnant I was eating and loving things that I wouldn't dare think about eating before. When I was pregnant I ate a whole jar of pickled pigs feet...ugghhh...Even then I didn't like them everytime I put it up too my mouth to take a bite and I smelt it I couldn't stand it. But that is what I was craving and when I made it pass the smell I loved the taste. Now I wouldn't dare eat those gross things. What you eat now is definitely impacted by you nursing just like when you were pregnant. When you craved something its had something in it that your body need to help with your pregnancy. The same with nursing. Certain foods will bring you proteins and vitams that are useful.

When I was pregnant, I made sure that I would have an egg, a glass of milk and a fruit everyday. That's not because I changed my taste of the food. I just wanted to make sure that I would eat something healthy and it was good for my baby. After my baby was born, I felt free and I started to eat anything I liked before:) I love China

I don't drink milk at all so I made sure I ate lots of cheese and I actually did force myself to drink some milk when I was pregnant.

Yes, I had a thing for food that I normally do not eat when I was pregnant way back. I remembered eating this not so great vegetable that I really hate and as soon as I gave birth I went back to hating it. So being pregnant makes you eat stuff you hardly eat and once you give birth you go back to your normal taste buds. I just have to say, it was fun getting to try food you hardly eat but it was a challenge to eat healthier food.

I craved for fried food as well when I was pregnant, I think it is very interesting that we have different cravings like that in the pregnancy, hormones is amazing, see what it does to us.

I believe the cravings definitely differ after having a baby. I do remember wanting this Spanish Food called Morcilla. I woke up early mornings craving and wanting them. It was so vicious because I wanted this the entire 9 months with both my kids. Funny that I only had this during my pregnancies and it is a very popular food in Puerto Rico which we can virtually find anywhere here in the US and for some odd reason I really didn't care for them any more after the kids were born. I wonder if there is any correlation also with the fact that since I ate it so much during pregnancy, that both my kids absolutely love it. I am not sure if it is related to you nursing the baby. Maybe ask your OB if it is related to the prolactin level somehow.

i think it's because of 'hormonal change' if im not mistaken. most of the pregnant women experience the same thing. good for me because with my two pregnancies, i never experience such thing =) it feels like im not pregnant at all, i dont crave for something or didnt feel to eat anything. . maybe im just lucky to have a 'peaceful pregnancy' =)

Personally, I am not sure if my food tastes have changed any with any of the miscarriages but there is a Cologne from Avon that really used to be my favorite and even smelled wonderful on me called "Imari". Even though I ended up having a miscarriage now almost 16 yrs. ago, this is one cologne I tried while pregnant and since then and it now smells awful on me. So it is possible that Food tastes during and after could probably change as well.

When I was pregnant with my daughter in the beginning I craved grilled cheese and tomato soup and fresh veggies. With my son I just craved chocolate. My tastes have changed after pregnancy though things I liked before I no longer care for etc. Some things I ate so much of during pregnancy that it just grosses me out to think of eating it now.

haha when I was pregnant, I couldn't believe how much I ate, I'm a small person and always thin, people were impressed that how much I can put in my stomach! I miss those days when I could eat anything that I want but now I have to cut back because I don't want to be getting fat in the future.

My diet has definitely changed! Every time I get pregnant there are certain foods I eat that I can not stand when I am not pregnant. I am not sure if it's the hormones raging or maybe our taste buds are different. All I know is my mind set is more healthier. I eat foods that are good for the baby like farina for example. But when I am not pregnant you couldn't pay me to eat it!

Hi, When I first pregnant, I started to dislike those fried foods and everytime when I smell of garlic or onions, I felt like vomitting and during the first trimester, I hardly have any fried food and most of the food are cook through steaming process. Only when I reached my second trimester, I started to have a good appetite, but I still dislike the garlic smell. After giving birth to my son, my appetite is back to normal. I eat back all the food that I like, actually I love eating fried garlic (which I put alot while frying some vegetables). But I was lucky that I did not encounter tough morning sickness throughout my pregnancy.

Yes mine did change. I used to love jalapeno peppers and after my first child just the smell made me want to retch. Now after baby number four I love them again. I also became a little fonder of seafood each time as well as I have lost my sweet tooth. Not a bad thing in it's self really!. I did have cravings for the seafood with each of them. I also had one meat each pregnancy I just couldn't eat for anything. The first was pork the second and third where chicken and the last wasn't meat it was cooked cheese. It so grossed me out I couldn't even see pizza.

There were food that grossed me out as well when I was pregnant - I couldn't smell coffee, it made me wanted to throw up and I particularly hated the smells of smoking.

It is because of women's hormones I think.
