How far up from your family tree do you know?

Okay.. im not sure if that is the correct question. Hehe but I meant to ask if you know who your ancestors were… say for me… I only know who my grandparents are and I have heard about my grandparent’s mother..But only up to my great grandmother. Makes me wonder if anyone here from us know their ancestors, more than the great grandparents… and how did you come to know about them? Does your family keep a record, a diary, or a family tree line?

I've been able to go quite far back. I've managed to go all the way back to the mid- to late-1600's. My husband has managed to go further back than that. But I'm still working on my side.

I can only go as far back as my grandparents on my mom's side. On my dad's side I can go a bit further...all the way back to the 1500's. Someone on my dad's side had already made a tree. I wasn't aware of this until I mentioned to my dad how I wanted to make a family tree and would like some information to get started. Imagine my surprise when he told me that it had already been done! Still, I wanted to continue adding on to it, so he sent me all the info that I needed. By what I've been told there is also a video family tree (?) made by my late maternal grandmother before she passed away. I'm just waiting to get a copy...that is, if it ever gets sent to me. Happy mylotting!

I only know up until my grandparents. I haven't even heard my parents talking about my great grandparents. We weren't able to keep a family tree or a diary because my father used to tell stories about how my grandmother wrote their birth dates on huge rocks just to remember them. :P Me and my bro's and sis' started talking about this a few days ago and we've decided to start our own family tree starting from our parents :)

Hi chiyosan! My family (on my father's side) keeps a record for about up to 6 generations. We have this what we call koseki tohon or family registry so we can trace up our ancestors. I come from a family of warriors and samurai's. My grandfather said, his great great grandfather was a warrior during the Edo period. I can write a family tree from the only about 3 generations which is from my great grandpa to my own family branch. hahaha.. It's simple to write because they had only 1 or two children. Happy mylotting!

I don't know the parents of my grandparents either. I was able got the chance of asking them since they die early in my life. My parents can not remember also who their grandparents were. I don't think I can still find their records at the Civil Registrar's office because their old office building and all the records there were burned during the World War in the 1940's.

Unfortunately they never did, I wish to know how it was like to my grands to be at war, if they had pictures even from the old times from the island they came from it would be really nice to look at.

I can trace my immediate family,. I can go back to siblings, parents and grandparents and aunts, uncles and cousins. i can even go back to great grandparents. Anything beyond that realm is something that needs further research to discover. Most of my family tree knowledge has been things recorded in the front pages of old family bibles. finding out more of my family tree and history is something i want to take more time to explore.

Hi there, A few years ago I traced my family tree back to the 1700's. It took a bit of research and getting hold of old records but I found it most interesting finding out about my roots. As I uncovere various records, I was able to plot out my family tree on my fathers side and th records also had what their occupations were. I am now quite tempted with doing the ame with my mothers line as I already have a base on that line from doing the original one.
