When I cleared out my husbands house after he died there were movies in a cd book type thing. None of them had the cases so I didnt know what the movies were about other then what it showed on the cd. My friend came over last night and I looked through the cds to figure out what to watch. I decided to watch "Brothers".
This movie was amazing. I wish the ending had been more dramatic that was my only complaint about the whole movie. Tobey Maguires acting skills in this movie blew me away. If anyone is looking for a movie with great acting and a lot of emotion this is it!
While watching the movie I noticed that after they rescued the main character Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) from Afgahanstan he looked so skinny. I figured he must have had to loose a lot of weight for the role and I was right. I looked it up online and found that for the second half of the movie he lost 20 pounds to play the role. That takes devotion to a role to do that. He isnt a big guy to begin with so for him to drop 20 pounds in 5 weeks for a role made him literally look as starved as his character was supposed to be.
After watching this film I can understand a lot more about what happens to soliders why they get post traumatic stress disorder. It breaks my heart what the character has to go through mentally in this movie.
Has anyone watched this movie? What did you think about it? Heres a link to the article I found online about his weight loss for the movie :

I remember watching this movie when it first came out on DVD. Like katsmeow up there, I would rather watch a movie with a happy theme. But I do remember being glued in front of the TV when I watched. It was a little bit disturbing for me, but I do agree that the acting was superb!
I also remember understanding a little bit more about what soldiers go through after coming home from duty.

I truly hope not all soliders have to come home feeling this way. It breaks my heart to think that even some of them have to go through post traumatic stress disorder. It happens to other people not just soliders but the fact that people are out fighting for our country and our freedom and our lives and have their lives ruined with things like this just breaks my heart.
I like movies that others would consider distrubing I guess I'm a little weird that way lol. I get more out of movies that move me and make me think and this was definitly one of them. My friend usually talks through most of the movies but he kept quiet and when we got to the end he was like that was a stupid ending and that was right before I was going to say it lol.

I've not seen this movie and to be completely honest, this is the first time that I've heard of it. However, I'm not really sure that this would be the kind of movie that I would enjoy because I tend to be the person that goes more toward the happy endings movies instead of those that have a pretty sad movie. There are many times that I've said that I disliked a movie simply because the ending of it made me cry.

I like happy endings to. Sometimes the ends of movies ruins the whole movie for me but its not necessarily weather it makes me cry or not. If it moves me enough to make me cry then I am probably going to really like the movie as long as the ending lives up to the rest of the movie.

I didn't like that movie, I thought it was creepy and disturbing. I'm more of a happy endings kind of person I guess.

To me it wasent disturbing at all but I think the character did an amazing job at appearing completely crazed. At certain points I was scared for him to be around his own children. I do wish though that the ending was more of a happy ending instead of how it ended with him finally telling his wife what happened.

My husband and I went to see this movie a year ago or so. I remember it was a good movie. I just looked it up on Netflix...so I might watch it again sometime.
It must be so hard to loose that much weight in so little time. But he is getting paid big bucks as well...so that would have an influence on me. lol

If I lost 20 lbs for a movie I might die literally lol. I weigh about 105 lbs. If I didnt die I would look really disgusting. I can say he did not look good after losing that much weight. True he was paid a huge amount to do that but thats something I would not want to do. He said he would black out and stuff.
