My Phone Dilemma

April 5, 2011 12:27pm CST
I'm trying to decide which phone to go for I know I want a HTC model and I've been looking at the HTC HD7, the Wildfire and the Desire but sadly I think it's out of my price range. I really like the HD7 the idea of the screen size for movies whilst on the go and essentially I'd like a big internal and possible an external memory although I'm not quite sure if the latter is available in either the HD7 and the Wildfire I'm near certain the Desire has though. I also want ease of use when accessing the internet which I hear the Desire is quite good for . My problem with the HD7 is a post I noticed on the lacking of apps for the Windows processing capabilities. I'm not sure what kind of apps are available and so I'm not entirely sure if I'll be missing out on much, will I? I'm also big on writing though through the use of mylot and other forums whilst my own personal writing which I'd like to have a nice notepad for so if you think any would be easier to type with even that would be a nice help to me.:) Then again I've started looking at the Wildfire and it's quite a bit cheaper than the other two so I'm curious if any has experience with it and how it's fared out for you or for any other model for that matter? Maybe you've another suggestion of a cheaper HTC model or something similar I do particularly like the look of them though and like the capabilities they appear to possess. Anyone with experience or any techies advice would be greatly appreciated . One things for sure though I'm completely against the idea of an Iphone, they've just never appealed to me nor has an Ipod.

Heya Stevie, The first thing we've got to sort out here is the type of Operating System: - Android - Windows Phone 7 I would never recommend a Windows Phone 7(WP7) to anyone because although I haven't used it, having seen it in action, it certainly doesn't appeal to me as much as Android does. Once you're into the Smartphone game, you'll want Apps. The WP7 has mostly paid applications on offer, whereas Android has both, with a large number of great free apps on offer. Since it's a matter of personal opinion, I'll try and help you decide from my point of view and probably offer up a few more options. Of the 3 phones you have mentioned, only the HTC Wildfire and Desire run on Android. So now we have 2 choices: Wildfire and Desire. Before we proceed, if the Desire doesn't agree with your pocket, go for the Wildfire. The HTC Wildfire is nothing but a mini-Desire. So don't expect much from it, but if this is your first leap into the Smartphone arena, I'm pretty sure you're going to love it. If, somehow, you can manage to increase your budget, you could also look into the HTC Desire HD, which costs slightly higher than the HTC Desire. However, do note that the battery lives on all these phones drag through just a day before you have to plug them into charging. The HTC Desire HD (4.3" screen) would be ideal for typing on, but not as the Wildfire since it has a much smaller screen(3.2" or 3.5"). It also depends on the size of your hands and which phone fits your grip. If budget is a big constraint, go for the Wildfire, if it's a medium constraint - Desire, in case it's not a constraint when you do plan to buy - Desire HD. You can also look into the HTC Legend, it falls between the range of HTC Wildfire and HTC Desire, both price and functionality wise. Good luck!

That's a lot of great information to take in . I'm not massive on applications at the minute but like you say once I take the leap into the smart phone then I'll probably want them. I think my best option might be to start saving a bit more and hold out for a HTC Desire although the HD one sounds awesome . I think a 4.3" screen is a must for me as I'd love to watch movies on the go...etc. I do think the wild fire was a good suggestion and it's something I'm currently looking into a bit more. The Legend also sounds quite good but my mind keeps getting tempted by my desire for the Desire . I was originally intended to buy on a sim free deal but I'm going to evaluate some contract deals see if theirs anything decent going for any of the phones although again think the Desire may just be out of my range. Thanks for the help though you've convinced me against the idea of a windows operated phone, on this actually have you other suggestions of phones using the android system even if they're now HTC. I'd welcome any thing you believe to be a worthy competitor.
