What Type of dog?

I have had a black lab for about 11 years now. It's upsetting to me that my current dog is getting old and has a hard time just getting up and walking. I get most of my exercise by walking my dog, and she can barely walk across our house. I feel so bad for her and want to do anything I can to put a little boost in her step. I have come to the sad conclusion that I don't think I will be able to do this. I was thinking of getting another puppy, so I would have a dog to take on long walks, and also so my current dog could take on the role of a mother and take care of the young pup. Do you think this would be a good idea for my current dog? Also I am unsure of what kind of dog to get. I really love lab's because they are so loyal, would you suggest any other bread?

I would suggest you to hang on to the idea of getting a new puppy because I think your lab will actually be sad about it because she knows she is getting old and can't function and walk very well, if now you go gfet a young puppy and play with the puppy but she can't play, I think it will be very upset for her... I have a lab as well, can't believe he will be 3 years old this summer, feels like I just bought him home . I think labs are verygood dog, weconsidered getting a coonhound before we decided to get a lab though.

I love labs, I think they are one of the nicest breads out there. so playful and always put me in a good mood. If i do decide to get a new dog, I think it will be a lab.

Don't get a new puppy for you lab. New puppies are energetic and naughty and he's gonna make your lab's life difficult, like maybe running away with food etc. You don't wanna do that. Stay with your dog for as much time as possible. I had a dobberman a few years back. The same happened with her as well. The best you can do now it try and keep her close to you most of the time. Whenever you are at home or somewhere where you can take her without too much of walking and running, do that.

I'll try to do what I can to keep my lab active and feeling needed right now. I think I'm going to wait on the puppy.

I do not think it would be fair to your lab to have a puppy running around and bothering her. She is too old to be expected to be a 'mother' now. She's been around long enough and been your friend too long for you to punish her with the added burden of an active puppy taking your affection away from her. Not a good idea there, Dunner. btw, Welcome to myLot.

Thanks for the advice. I was on the fence about getting a new dog r not. By the comments, it doesn't look like my lab would appreciate a new puppy right now. I love having a dog around, and I am just scared at how much time she has left.

my dog is a pomeranian and very playful dog that's why when I see him sleeping a lot, I feel he is weak, he is a 3 months old already and I ask the veterinarian told me that it is natural for his age. sleeping a lot is gud for him... Pomeranian also a good breed dog...i suggest

I personally like Beagles, because once they get to know you they become extremely loyal. They are great family dogs, and are sweet and lovable. They love to be outside, and most of all love to run forever! It would be a great dog if you wanted to have a friendly, yet energetic dog to exercise with.
