Possible government shutdown

With the possibility of the federal government shutdown looming, does anyone else think that we (as a nation) need to stop relying on government to take care of us when we're old and infirm; take care of the rest of the world (Haiti and Japan); and stop bailing out businesses that demonstrate bad business models. Perhaps if the legislators in power actually felt threatened at losing their salaries and benefits if the budget didn't pass, we wouldn't be having these problems (especially goes for state governments too!). Everyone needs to stop looking at the US government as having an inexhaustible money supply for a change. Let's stop focusing on whose fault it is and work on fixing it instead!

hi scorpiobabes the US government need to budget its money just like all us poor working class people. they spend money they do not have then blame the elderly and cut their benefits. what happened to not spending money you do not have. so the us government has umpity trillion dollars per month and they spend twice that of cou rse they will be in dept. a lot of us housewives who budget for our families could show them how to spend wisely. do not buy it if you do not have it. do not send more troops tanks etc to war zones when you do not have the money to pay for them. work on the problems here at home. do not spend more than you have. stay within your budget Mr.USA. let us house wives and widows on budgets show you how to live within a budget. also take care of the US first not the rest of the world for a change. every country in this world depends on us to bail them out and we ou rselves are broke yet we still shell put money to other countries.I say our government has brought this on themselves. I as a elderly person on social security have not had a raise in my check in three or four years and no I resent being told I rely on the governement as I worked up til I was 80 and put loads of money into social security so no I am not ashamed to use my social security check as it keeps me from baving to sleep on a park bench. If all the people in Congress had lower salaries like the rest of us a lot of money could have been saved. so no do not blame us elderly and infirm. we did not c ause our US congressmen to overspent not at all.

Hatley, my boyfriend is retired Army (Gulf War vet) and is also on disability. He hasn't received a raise in 3 or 4 years either. I've got multiple sclerosis and had to go BACK to work because I hadn't 'worked enough quarters' yet, whatever the he11 that means. I'm working at a physically draining job because it's like physical therapy, yet I can't afford a doctor's appointment to update a paper trail on my meedical history. Ugh--this mess is a bunch of rich people's fault whose lives aren't directly affected by the recession--and they need to learn how it's affecting every day folks!

Yes. Yes. Yes. Americans have allowed government to become its own huge entity. It's more like the Fed than what it was meant to be. And it's larger by far than any government needs to be. So many issues we face as a country are local problems. If they need to stretch past the local level, i.e. towns and counties, then states should handle it. But our federal government is absolutely enormous. And while its proponents will argue about "takeovers" and crap until they're blue in the face and dizzy from spinning, the obvious truth of the matter is that each new class of politicians we get at the federal levels attempts to do more and more. I don't blame one party. I don't blame a handful of politicians. I blame the entire system and say that it needs to be fixed. I watched Charles Schumer crying to Matt Lauer about how people don't want the government. Well, can you blame us? Our politicians go cry to Matt Lauer about their problems and wanting to spend more of our money! Of course some of us don't want you, Chuck. You useless tool. When government became a better career move than anything in the private sector, our problems just got worse and worse as a country. The more we spend, the broker we all get. The more government tries to "fix" schools and inner cities and the prison system and everything else, the worse off it all becomes. ALL evidence points to government as the problem. ALL! And while some people blame business, that STILL points to government, Michael Moore, so zip it. State governments have their problems too. No doubt about it. But at least they're on a smaller level, easier to change, and you can always move next door! With the way our federal government is going, we're going to have mass migrations to Mexico. (And I bet we'd be thrown in jail down there. )

You bring up some very good points here! The increase in prisons is not due to poor education, but instead its due to POOR PARENTING! Parents need to take responsibility in raising their children to do the right thing, but they need to quit expecting everyone else to take care of their children! That has absolutely NOTHING to do with the government. What's wrong in this country isn't really due to government, nor business--it's the sense of entitlement that has been cultivated over the years. I talked to a recently hired young woman, and was shocked at this comment: I used to get a raise every two months; if I have to wait six months, that's too long! I worked somewhere for five years without a raise! Hey honey--wake up to reality: you're lucky to have a job but a raise is a serious perk! I'm a former resident of NJ, and I think Chris Christie has been doing a bang-up job! He doesn't spend money that he doesn't have (meaning he's the ONLY governor during my lifetime!); he's standing up to the all-powerful teacher's union; and doing his darndest to lower property taxes there. I only hope he runs for president some day--he actually KEEPS campaign promises!

There are a lot more things that have to be done but I personally think that there is not going to be any fixing this. This has been a plan in the making.Everything that has been going on in the world has already been written. It just takes a little research,open-mindedness,and understanding to get the real life facts of life.Just look up the illuminati and thats just a start.Look up the HAARP project. Its so much in the world going on that they just dont want you to know about.Open your eyes!!!!!!

Paranoid much? Too many people think that everyone in government is out to get them. I've found that if I listen to all the theories about what is going to kill me, I'll be sucking a lot of air, oh wait, it's ALL polluted! Same with water, or soil! Everything's bad for me...fruits and vegetables are often contaminated with e. coli bacteria (cause we all know meat is bad for you, and fish contains mercury!) See a trend here? I sound like a paranoiod freakazoid, don't I? But I'm not too worried because since I will only get one go-round here, and I'd like to enjoy myself because I'm sure of this: I'M GOING TO DIE IN THE FUTURE! I just don't know when, or how--that's the Lord's choice, not mine. The HAARP project also came up with more hits as the HAARP conspiracy. But thank you for sharing--someone else will see this post, look it up and think it's the law.
