internet and teenagers

As much as people warn me of the dangers of the internet for your teenager, this is what i have realised in the last year: Compare teenage-hood with the 1980's when i was one... there was nothing else to do but to go to parties, movies or sleepovers. At least now, i can see my daughter at home every night still having a great time with her friends on the web, and not up to any mischief! Is this ok?

Dangers are everywhere, not just on the internet and you know the common dangers on the internet can be avoided just by a little knowledge. where as all those parties, movies and sleepovers can cause some serious damage if the person is not careful enough. So internet is still a safe option as long you know how to deal with it.

The 80's were a great time to be a teenager...i have a 9 year old daughter and she sits at the PC for far to long! It would be great to have a 50/50 mix of all the things we did with the added bonus of cell phones and the internet....ohh! hold on....that would make them better at not getting caught! lol! I wish we had the gadgets they have now....sneaking drink into a party would have been so much easier! lol!

The internet brings teenagers to a world that did not exist so many years ago. there is hardly anything a teenager can not connect with on the internet. It's good that technology has advanced to give children more opportunities but they still should be done with proper supervision for the comfort and safety of everyone.

Maybe some teenagers too addicted to internet, and they might not be able to do something else. Like exercise outside of the house, or they rather sitting in front of the monitor, than go out jogging or play. That might not be a good thing too. So, don't go extreme on everything though.

Well , in a way it is safer for our daughter's sake to be at home at night, just doing some internet chatting with friends. However, they are missing the funs we had during those times . But actually, during those times we are i guess more behaved than teenagers now? What do you think?

It's great that you get to spend time with your daughter, but she should go out with her friends and not just staring at a screen. Sure she can interact with them, but not in the way that gets her active and allows her to experience life. If you have raised her right you dont need to worry that she will do something bad.

I'd much rather prefer going out with friends then laying on my bed chatting online with friends. There's so much you could do outside, I guess it's a little easier for a parent because they don't have to worry about their child and what they're doing. But I don't find the internet safe at all. Teenagers become obese with the internet not being aware of the dangers of online.
