Traveling to Mexico... A few Questions

At the end of this month my boyfriend and I are vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for our anniversary. We'll be staying at the Westin Resort and Spa, but we do plan on shopping, eating outside the resort, and doing other activities, of course, such as zip lining.
I've read a great deal of information regarding travel and such, but some sources say US dollars are not accepted (only pesos) while other sources say they are. I know I can probably use my debit and credit cards, but I am worried about extra surcharges since I will be using them out of the country.
Does anyone have any information they can share with me regarding traveling from the United States to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico? Thanks!

You're going to have a great time. My husband and I went to the Playa del Carmen in December. It was beautiful at the resort we were at. Don't worry about the money. Your resort and the excursions will take American dollars. Also if you buy something at any little shops you can ask them if you can pay with American dollars and then ask for the same back. It's really funny to see the prices there because something like a magazine could be maybe $100 (Peso's) but only a few dollars American. I had to keep asking people how much is the item in American dollars. Have a great time and don't worry about anything. Just enjoy.

Well, to be honest with you, I never been to Mexico, and I have no such experience been there though. But, congratulation, you had a great anniversary with your boyfriend and fun over there. The only advise I can give you, if you have to use credit card, use capital one, and they won't charge your junk fee on it. If you have to use debit card, make sure notify your bank where you are going, to see what is the subcharge by using ATM oversea, and would they have any branch in Mexico? Good luck and have fun!

I work at a bank and have already alerted them I might be using my debit card. I have not yet had this vacation. It will be in two weeks. I am getting excited and hopeful.
