hi yugasini,
the moment i saw the picture of the star fruit, i knew it "balimbing" in our dialect.
when i was in my elementary grades, i used to climb its tree and gather the fruits. i love it with salt and vinegar.
have a nice day.

I have seen and can purchase carambola/star fruit in some of the stores near me too - and I live in Canada :) I've never tried it because I wasn't sure what it would taste like or how to actually eat it. I wasn't sure if the waxy skin was edible but now I know that it is :) I think it would look fantastic on a fruit platter too... so pretty :) I just read too that star fruit can supply 5% of the recommended daily allowance of potassium. This is good news for me... a lot of people get their potassium from bananas but, for some reason, I can no longer eat bananas :( I love them and have eaten them all my life but now, when I try, they give me a terrible stomach ache. So it's nice to know that star fruit is another natural source.

I have a tree in my garden and it yields abundantly but no takers. I do not like the taste as it is sour and sour fruits do not agree with me.
