Shane Watson today became the cricketer with highest number of sixes in an O.D.I. match. He hammered 15 sixes in his score of 185 N.O. in second O.D.I. against Bangladesh played at Mirpur, Bangladesh. Australia won the match with 9 wickets and thus secured a series win with one match still to go. Bangladesh winning the toss and electing to bat first could manage only 229 runs which could have been defendable on slow wicket but Shane Watson had different ideas. He batted like a man possessed and hammered 185 of just 96 balls with the help of 15 fours and equal number of sixes. In the process he surpassed the record of 12 sixes in a match held by Xavier Marshall for most sixes in a O.D.I. match. Australia took just 26 overs to overhaul Bangladesh score of 229 runs.

Hi yashgupta, Welcome to mylot and enjoy the cricket here. You seem to be a great fan of Shane Watson so do I but he missed on the world cup show. He did not perform to his potential in the world cup. He was the batsman in form and barring a few, he did not perform to his potential in key matches.

Well it was ofcourse an amazing innings but I dont think Watto is the best player in the world.Remember Lou Vincent ,he too hit an amazing 172 against a much better attack. But one thing I am sure had Bangladesh scored another 25 runs Sachin's record would have been in danger.

Dear MSDivkar, Shane Watson's innings was truly one of a kind. By the time he finished his strike rate was almost 200. To do that in a one day international is simply amazing. But all said and done, the crucial question is can he perform like this against bigger opponents. He did not do well in the world cup. He showed signs here and there, but in the end under performed. My only criticism against Shane Watson is that he gets a lot of starts and fails to make convert them in to big ones. I have to say the same about his opening partner. I hope that Watson comes up with big scores against better opponents more often. All said and done, this innings was special. 15 sixes is not easy. (PHEW). Bangladeshis will not forget this assault that easily for a long time to come. Well done Watson... Share your views... Balu.

Hi balu, Don't consider Bangladesh attack that bad. Watson had similar innings, may not be to that scale, against bigger opponents also. Very recently he has continuously played well against England who had just defeated them in Ashes series. Watson has also played well against India on number of occasions. He was tipped to be the best up coming player last year.

I think the Aussies are hell bent on taking their frustrations on Bangladesh. After a century in the first match by Clarke to start his captaincy career, comes this knock by Watson. All you can say is this is real thrashing, 15 fours and 15 sixes. What's more he has scored 185 out of a team score of 232 while chasing which is really unheard of in terms of percentage of runs scored while chasing such a score. Cheers! Ram

Thank you ram. You are right Australia is taking the frustration of loosing the world cup on poor Bangladesh. Watson of all has under performed in this world cup. he had shown great promise in run up to the world cup but did not perform to his potential barring a few matches. He had to take out his frustration some where. He found a nice punching bag in Bangladesh but a great knock by any standard.
