Hi all, For so long, we have come across a lot of cricketers and I feel left handers are more powerful whether batting or bowling as compared to right handers. For example, Gary kirsten, Lance Klusener, JP Duminy,Saurav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh,Suresh Raina, Mike Hussey, Michael Bevan, Adam Gilchrist, Saeed Anwar, Brian Lara, Jimmy Adams,Kumar Sangakkara and many more are prominent left handed batsmen.Likewise, some of best left-arm bowlers are RP singh,Zaheer khan, Wasim Akram,Wayne parnell, Chaminda Vaas and many more. Although there are popular right handers like Sachin, Ricky Ponting, Kevin Pieterson, Jacques Kallis, Herschelle Gibbs, Kapil Dev, Waqar Younis, Muthaiah Muralidharan, Andrew Flintoff and a lot more, I still feel Left- handers are prominently seen giving away fantastic performances than Right-handed cricketers although they are comparatively lesser in number as compared to right-handed cricketers as far as cricket world is concerned.Do you agree with me?

Dear Jaffna, I beg to differ with your opinion. I believe a cricketer, be it right handed or left handed, if he is talented will go places. As a matter of fact, any sportsman, if you have talent and follow good work ethics, he or she will be successful. Now I would like to remind you of some of the right handed greats that you might have over looked. No offense to the great left handed players. They are still great. Batsmen. Don Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, Viv Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Steven Waugh, Mark Waugh, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, VVS Lakshman, Aravinda DeSilva, Javed Miandad, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Martin Crowe, Geoff Boycott, to name a few...!!! Now as for bowlers... Malcom Marshal, Andy Roberts, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Courtney Walsh, Curtley Ambrose, Ian Bishop, Dennis Lillee, Richard Hadlee, Glenn Mgrath, Bret Lee, Shane Warne, Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Chandrashkhar, Muttiah Muralidharan to name a few...!!!! Now I believe that every one finds it interesting when a left handed batsman or bowler come along. This is because they do a mirror image of a right handed player. Since left handed people are less in number, people will always be intrigued with their style of play. But once again, if some one has to be great in any sport, he or she has to be talented, and more importantly has to put in the time and the effort...!!!! Share your views...!!! Balu

The answere you had written is quite impressive and very well shaped and upto the point to the user's question. I am fully agree with you it the talent matter and not the left or right hand. If you have talent you will do well as you have given examples alredy. Thanks good luck!!!!

I just think that this thing goes in circles. In the 80s and 90s teams rarely had left handers and if there was one left hander per team it was considered a USP for that team. In the late 90s and early 2000s this trend has changed. Now every team has at least 2 left handers. In some cases like the South Africans and the West Indies, there have been at times more left handers than right handers. So I think this just keeps coming in circles. Either way it is not possible to prove that one is better than the other. For e.g. the best batsmen in the world are Sachin, Don, Ponting, Lara... while the best bowlers of the game are McGrath, Warne, Akram, Murali etc... So either way both sides have champions, as long as they are good whether they are left or right does not matter. Cheers! Ram

Your list of left-hand batsmen and left-arm bowlers is quite impressive. One cannot but admit the greatness of all those players. Personally my observation is there appears to be some grace in a left-handed batsmen. Maybe it is due to the fact that we are mostly used to watching right-handers, and miss the grace point. VVS, Azhar, Dravid and our own wizard Sachin are all remarkable right-handers. Coming to bowling department, left-armers do have some advantage being the wrong hand for most batsmen. The difficulty is getting nullified these days as more and more left-arm bowlers are in the cricket scene nowadays.

Hi jaffna, Left handers always seem to enjoy special advantage not only in cricket but in any other sport. Whether it is tennis, table tennis, squash etc.. They are more stylish and people enjoy seeing them. But as you rightly pointed out all good players are not left handers. There are more right handers then left handers in any sport. One prominent name you have missed out in left handers is Garry Sobers, the most versatile and stylish left hander all rounder ever existed.

Left handers have indeed been more stylish and flamboyant. Style and grace has always been their forte. The most stylish were Sobers,Brian Lara and David Gower. Saurav Ganguly and Yuvraj from India are awesome players. Yuvi, in fact was compared to Gary Sobers. Yuvi is a very stylish player and his game looks so effortless. The left arm bowlers were awesome too. Wasim Akram was the complete fast bowler and feared by all batsmen.

It is very difficult to say whether right hand Batsman or left hand batsman are good. Both of them have set a equal records. The highest run scorer in test and ODI is Sachin who is a right hand batsman. While the second highest run scorer in odi's is Jayasuriya who is a left hand batsman.Brian lara is the highest Individual run scorer in tests and third highest run scorer in test who is left hand batsman.Though sachin is the highest individual scorer in odi who is a right hander Saaed anwar is at the third in the list who is a left hander.Yuvraj singh left hander has hitten six sixes in an over in T20 and similarly Gibbs of South Africa has hitten six sixes in an over in ODI.So it is difficult to judge whether right or left hand batsman is the best.I would say that thy are equally best.

hai, u left some of the good right batsmans & bowlers, Sunil Gavaskar, Vivian Richards, Mohammed Azaruddin, Dhilip Vengsarkar, Madamlal, Srinath, Anil Kumble, I listed here few indian players only, not other countries. If u think some players what u have listed, you find out few from other countries also.. So my personal opinion is left or right handers, there are equal players in the game of cricket.
