I hate when my children get sick and now both my little ones have colds. The youngest is 2months so I have been keeping a strict eye on her, because I worry so much her being so young with a cold. My oldest is 3 and she is never ever sick, so this is rare for her. So far it is just a cough and sneezing. I think that it is from this crazy weather we have been having lately. One day it is 70F degrees out and the next day its back down to 30F. They have only had the colds for about two-three days now. I'm not exactly sure on how long the normal cold last? I took them to the doctor yesterday and the doctor said there is nothing they can do because they are just colds, plus my little one who is 2 months can't really take anything. So today my husband and I went and got a water vapor machine to put in our room to help clear out the congestion in their chests. I gave them each a nice warm bath, put on their jammies, and now they are fast asleep. I am really hoping that they feel better in the morning because it makes me so sad to see them not feeling well. To comfort them I try rocking them, and just cuddling with them, but it still breaks my heart that I can't do anything to take it away. What do you do to comfort your children when they are sick? Do you have any special tricks to make them feel better?

Yes, it is very hard to watch your children get sick. Normal cold usually last 7 days and can take anything up to 14 days to clear. If they still don't get better after 14 days, take them to see the doctor again. It is very common for children to catch cold during season change. As far as taking care of them is concerned, there is nothing much you can do except love them. I don't recommend the use of medicine unless it is necessary. My older daughter always catch cold easily and everytime, the cold does not leave her until she take some antibiotic. I usually give her Augmentin (Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate Oral Suspension). My brother-in-law, who is a doctor suggested this for her cold. So far, it works every time. My younger daughter, however, gets healed from the cold on her own. For both of them, if they have high fever, I give them Calpol (only if the fever is high). I rub Vicks on them to clear the airways and to prevent chest infection. I hope your children get better soon.
