Please watch this Mc. Donalds commercial first. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mde5nrtNxW4 Translation in English: girl kid: I am already your girlfriend? boy kid: I don't like! I am still not yet ready. girl kid: huh?! boy kid: a girlfriend is demanding....they want this, they want that.. i dunno!! girl kid: All I only want is to have a Mc. Donald's fries ehh!! boy kid : Really?? girl kid: (nod while smiling) Comment: Why do you think the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) banned this commercial of Mc. Donalds? This is a really cute commercial. The catholic priests are alarmed that a kids will indulge themselves into having girlfriends and boyfriends at such a young age. Well the young ages of indulging gf / bf here in the Philippines is really alarming. at such a young age of 11 to 12 years old is really shocking as well. But it is with the upbringing of the parents forms a great factor in setting up the minds of their young kids and explaining to them the repercussions of their acts. Well this commercial depicts that in a hard up times like this, that only a small amount can still bring happy faces with a lot of people. A small amount that will really come from the heart of the giver will be really meaningful for the receiver. I have also read the comments there from YouTube and seen the violent reactions there. I must agree in some point but I still have to be in the neutral side. The setting is in the play ground so might as well just come up with a scenario that is relevant from the setting and not involving the gf / bf part. For example, The two kids are really tired from playing in the playground so they decided to stop for a while and talked. That they became hungry and talked about food to eat. I know the bf / gf part is a strong enticement. But then a commercial is really a powerful tool to drive the minds of the people. When I was a small kid like the ones in the commercial, my mom would say that I am just watching all the commercial on the tv rather than the program itself. That I am watching intently all the commercial and when the program resumes, I will go ahead and start playing or start drawing or continue the kiddie stuffs that I was doing. So how about you guys, what are your comments?

I think that it was an over reaction for the part of the CBCP, I teach preschool and the fact is being gf/bf for them is just synonymous with being best friends, children don't have malicious minds, I have students claiming they are a couple, and no matter how they react it's a fact that children are more exposed to this things than we were before, the television isn't the only source of media, there's the net, movies that portrays young actors being a couple and even in their environment, they can see young couples at malls, churches and such...and there are more morally alarming commercials like that of enduranz, which I don't really propose of banning either...

Hello there! Thank you for the nice response! Yes I agree that the CBCP has over reacted. Television is the most powerful media because most people here have Television in our country but not most of us have computers with internet. And the kids are the ones most vulnerable to those kinds of exposure to the public. I just wish that the commercial should be subtle in portraying that kind of scenario. Enjoy your week.

The advisement is catchy. Why would they banned it. Why not banned those other commercial that expose skins.

Hmmm good point. Because exposing skin is a very natural way. You can always see it everywhere like when you go to a pool or beach. you will definitely see a lot of skin. But then, a real dangerous way of "kamulatan" (tapping up one's curiosity) is a "thought" that will linger in the minds of all people (or young ones) that will be able to see it. Thank you Christine for the nice response.

Hello Aaronfyzeon, There's nothing wrong with that commercial! How about the COAT SAVER commercial?! wasn't that against the third commandment that says "thou shalt have other gods before me?" they should have banned that commercial as well using the church as a front line. they are indeed becoming annoying over the past few days. the church has become obselete for a lot of reasons and very unreliable because they didn't want people to adopt to the times. unfortunately, the more filipinos being banned to the more they do IT! WHy on earth the church is influencial STILL?

eurhmm..maybe they didn't banned it coz it wasn't so media popular unlike the Mcdonald's where it got thousands of hit..sheesh! talk about them barking at the wrong tree.

The commercial looks innocent and pure to me, i already see kids who started to have boyfriends and girlfriends at a very young age but they know their limitations. They were just over reacting as usual, I think those Catholic priest should be reacting to a show known as Goign Bulilit instead since they make kids dance sexy and wear skimpy clothes.

Oh really? I didn't know that.. Hmmmmm... Well anyway, you are somehow correct that they are somehow over-reacting but then I think they still have a point. Yes children or kids who are having a bf or gf know their limitations. But what if the other kids does not. Their will just go way beyond the things that they should not suppose to do. I just hope parents are always on guard with their children. Thank you for this nice post and enjoy the weekend ahead.

to think of it its not the first commercial that romantically portrays children, I mean even in the tv shows, children had been portrayed romantically in our local tv. Its been there for a long time. The more you try to hide kids from their sexuality the more curious they will be. its all about parental guidance for sure.

CBCP always exaggerates things and I don't understand why companies and even the government had to succumbed to their tantrums.

They always do. They even try to meddle in all activities of the state.

I do love the commercial about the two little kids. The problem is that the CBCP is against of that because it is not appropriate for the two kids that at their age the boyfriend/girlfriend thing is on their mind. I think nothing wrong with that commercial. I like it.

TV commercials are very influencing and enticing. It can also corrupt a minor's mind. I think in my opinion, the commercial only needs a revision of the script because it is really very alarming. It is true that it is on the parents who are responsible for what their children can see. However, not everytime we can prevent our kids what to see and watch specially when we are not around. Hence, banning the commercial is just another way. Besides, we can entice people with other ways.

Hi aaron fyzeon: I have to agree with you. This commercial is cute and I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, I don't think little kids are going to end up thinking like: I want to have a boyfriend/girlfriend . This is just fun and cute and they'll find it funny. They're little ones, they'll be more interested on burguers, not on dating. When I was a kid I have watched some films where little boys like 10 years talk about kissing a girl or having a boyfriend or a girlfriend and this doesn't affect me at all. ALVARO
