I am wondering if the Department of Education in the Philippines is noticing and monitoring the high amount of miscellaneous fees in private schools. Yesterday, I went to my daughter's school to get her report card and they give notice that the amount of tuition fees and miscellaneous fees for the next school year is available at the Principal's office. I almost got a heart attack not only because of the increase in tuition fee but mostly because of the miscellaneous fees. Tuition fee for a second year high school is more than Php 12,000.00 for the whole year which is 10% higher than the previous year. In addition to this, the school is collecting almost Php6,000.00 for miscellaneous fees, Php 1,500.00 for materials and Php 1,500.00 for energy fee. This amount excludes the books (approximately Php5,000.00)which should be all brand new but there are books which was never used even at the end of the year. Summing everything, I need to have $600.00 for each of my daughter just to enroll them next school year. This still excludes uniforms and other school things. With the current financial problem we are all facing, I don't know if I could still afford to enroll them though I would want them to finish till high school on their current school. I am hoping that authorities would monitor this problem.

Every school authorities is saying that they need to higher up their enrollment fees because they are also experiencing the higher cost of commodities especially the school needs and the wages of their faculty. In my own understanding maybe they would save more if they would conserved some of their usage of electric, water consumption and especially office supplies...maybe I think this is just small concerns but if you put it as one it could help..

an officemate is going to pay P48,500 for the tuition fee of her grade V daughter. and she has to pay more than half of it on enrollment day if she cannot pay in full. i was very shocked to learn. i mean, it is truly a burden.

I understand it when they told us that there is a 10% increase in tuition fee, I think it was standard for private schools for them to increase the salary of the teachers which is not competetive with the salary of that in public schools. But for miscellaneous fees, they could controlled or minimize it. There are so many materials and workbooks that the students doesn't finish doing for the entire school year. I hope that they will disregard it to lessen the expenses.

I hope that the government officials will do something with this. Every parents would like to give the best education for their children and its difficult if the institution is putting extra burden on us.

I know exactly what you mean. My husband was also suppose to enrol 1 class for summer in another school but we didnt pursue doing it cause we discovered that even though he was only going to take 1 class, we will still pay the miscellaneous fee full. I just dont understand it at all. I think the misc fees are where schools are earning money from their students. They say the tuition fee is cheaper but they make misc fees more expensive.

Wow i guess you need to be a millionaire if you wanna join in high school for you yourself if you wanna study. here also payments are quite high for people seeking good education in colleges. We make an extra fee of what we call DONATION in here so that we can get the required seat in the college of our choice. I really hate such kind of stuff. Education should be free. But it seems that money speaks education also in some countries. here also fees cost quite high and they can take the living hell out of anyone to earn money! Cheers!
