Is there any greater compilation of Elton John's music career than the DVDs of his 60th Birthday performance at Madison Square Garden, NY?
His 60th performance at the Garden, on his 60th birthday.. first song played, "60 Years On".
I know not everyone is into Elton John's music, and that is fine, but for those who are, this is Captain Fantastic at his best!

To play his 60th performance at Madison Square Garden, on his 60th Birthday... Yeah, I'd say he had a fun one!
How many people describe their lives as "Magical"?

I have seen many concerts in London, Paris , Berlin but never have a attended a concert to beat the first concert I saw with Elton Johns. It was in 1999 in the Civic Center in Savannah Georgia. It was the most emotional concert I have ever attended. I laughed, cried, screamed it was wonderful. Elton sat on stage at the piano for about 3 hours and had the whole audience mesmerized. Now even approaching even in my oldage I would love to attend another of his concerts.
Never before have seen an artist who just played the first note of a song and that was enough to bring the audience to it's feet in a standing ovation!
Now I must get the DVD of his performance on his 60th birthday.

Yes, his performances are adventures in music, lights, and emotion. The fact his fans can "name that tune" in 1 or 2 notes is a real testament to his writing and playing. So many songs sound like so many other songs, but the variety of Elton John's approach to his craft gives his music a texture rare in pop music.
He is one musician that would still be playing his songs, even if there were only 5 people in the audience.

I was a big fan of Elton John back in the 1970' when he really popular! Back then he had songs like "Bennie and the Jets",Crockadile Rock,"Daniel's Song" and "Goodbye Yellowbrick Road". Back then he was really flamboyant with his eye glasses and wardrobe! In those days I had no idea he was gay but it would not of matter! His was and is a great singer, song writer and entertainer!

Robin Williams once quipped about Elton John's 70s show... "He had a wardrobe that made Liberace look Amish." :~D

Hello ParaTed2k, although I am not a great fan of Elton JOhn because I have not listened to all of his music, but I still like him as a singer, yes he is fantastic! I would definitely like to hear more of the one that you have referred to.

Elton John
Famous for his musis, Crockolile Rock, Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting, Pinball Wizard, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Candle in the Wing, Daniel, Nikita, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, there are many more besides these I have mentioned, not all of which I like. He is of course a superb artist in his own right and hence his status as 'Sir' Elton John. Perhaps onthers might not think so - you decide.

I somehow missed this post when you first started it but I had to respond regardless of how late it is. Somehow I wouldn't have taken you for an Elton John fan but this is one thing we can agree on 150% I saw him in concert a few years ago and he was phenomenal. It was a show where it was just him and his piano, no other singers or musicians onstage. Someone else here mentioned about him playing just one note of a song and the audience standing, well that's exactly what happened there. He opened with one of my favorites, "Your Song" and the crowd went wild. There were people there of all ages and backgrounds. I don't have this new DVD yet but I'm certainly planning on getting it soon.
