{this discussion requires reading] Next to Survival Horror games, My favorite genre of videogame is fighting Game, also known as Versus, The most popular figjhting games are Street Fighter,Mortal Kombat,King of Fighters, marvel vs. Capcom,Tekken, dead or Alive and many more to mention. The very first fighting game have an all male cast, the usual muscled guys from different Martial Arts, Then suddenly it was Changed when the Character Chun-li, she is the first female fighting game character and because of her Fighting game producers decided to add at least 1 to two female characters in the roster. Then more things change, To attrack girls to play fighting games they tried to make characters that appeals girl, Instead of the muscle dude and sexy woman that appeals men. they decided to create a pretty boy character and cute girl character. then more archetype of characters were created, Like the Bruce lee Look Alike, The Japanese schoolgirl, the weapon using character and many more. In fighting games you can play any characters in the roster, in every stage you will fight a different character and in the final stage there is the Boss character or the final character you will fightn so you can see your character's ending is called the Boss character, this is the last character you have to fight. Fighting games can be also played with your friends. Its a cool genre of game that fits parties, -------- Usually fighting games have an average of 12 to 30 characters from different nationalities (Usually Japanese,American, British,Chinese, French and mexican) The biggest cliche in fighting games is either an evil villain organizes a martial arts tournament and all that Jazz. Each character have their own objective and storyline. -------- So if you will produce your own fighting game, lets say you have a roster of 12 characters, what kind of characters will be in your game? They have to be your original ideas. 1. What will be their fighting styles? 2.What will be their Nationalities? 3.How many male characters? 4.How many female characters? 5.What will be the powers of the characters? 6.What would be the final Boss character of the game? 7.What will be the game's theme to make it unique from other fighting games?

Well, i like Super Smash brothers(SSB), i like this new concept of more fighters in arena together..a 2D fight in 3D arena. And i like beat'n up games too. So, if i was a concept producer of fighting games i think i go with a sum of this two genres. like a 2D fight in 3D, with the option to call friends and make a coop. You will walk to right fighting the enemies and like SSB you can use the scenario in your favor. Like scenario with traps, explosive areas, walls, abyss, etc. I think in 10-15 chars . And the fighting styles divided in melee and ranged with subgroups like melee-sword, melee-bare hands , ranged-magic ,etc. powers? yes, please! skills? A lot.. I don't like fighting games like. A- punch, B- kick, A+B- something stupid... i want a full set of movements and this is the reason for the 2D option. More movements can be inserted. Boss?... well, i don't like giant bosses like the marvel vs capcom boss. I think a overwhelmed with a lot of health, breakers, combos its more suited for boss. And that is my 30 seconds idea for a fighting game. xD

I already have my own concept of fighting game in my head. Once I have the money I will make it to fruitition....LOL in ym concept I will make sure the storyline is not about a martial arts tournament....LOL cos that storyline is overused... when it comes to violence, do you prefer teen rated like Street fighter and Tekken, or do you prefer M-rated like Mortal Kombat? I like Gigantic bosses too, its just freakin epic and it makes the experience unique in the end. though I love Anime, I wont use anime style character designs on my characters cos we already have too much of that. I might go motion capture models and design the character's likeness to real people yet still make them look hand drawn.

In my case I might go for teen rated, though yeah part of me also wanted to make an M-rated game though for sure there is more chance for money with teen rated. I also want to find a way to attract competitive players and casual players at the same time.

Well, Who do you want to play your game??? Thinking about this will answer your question about the rated issue. i personally prefer M-rated. Real like chars i prefer too. Cartoon models are more easy to do and program, but, again, depends on who will play this game. M-rated totally need real like characters in other hand child-rated asks cartoon like characters.

Hellp capt! I am also really fond of playing fighting games, speacially Tekken. I am a big fan. If I created my own fighting game in the future, well I would create 4 muscular man,2 guys with magical powers and other one with flexible body and one ninja. And for the female character, I would create 2 hot chicks and 2 cute babes. Well in my fighting game, there would be various arena all around the world and each character related to each country some how. The main boss would try to capture each and every character and steal their powers and make his own and as usual conquer the whole world. I am felling really excited about this creating game thing..:)

Would you go for the "international cast" route or will the storyline be set in one country? 2d or 3d? what is your limitations when it comes to violence? When you mean cute babes, do you mean schoolgirls or women who are pretty but is not about sexappeal? A ninja for sure is always a must.

Hiya Captain Of all those you mention, I reme, ber my craziness for the MOrtal Kombat. When I assembled my first PC (in 1998) games were not available at my City and I remember I went to another city, Kolkata (500 kilometers or maybe more from here) to get me a CD of MK. It was the 4th Edition if I am right. I still am looking out for MK Vs. DC but that was only on XBOX and I do not have one Anyways, for the discussion - 1. I would use - Martial Arts, Shooters(like the days of Cowboys), Super Powers like the X-Men too. 2/3/4. Nationalities - Oh none. It will be only 4 characters to choose from - and I would attempt to allow user to put pu his/her own face/pic for the other characters 4. Answered in 1 - but yes, I will keep all the powers of the MK for all characters - I know this will be a burden on the player with so many powers but all can be changed by just a single keystroke 5. I will be the final Boss character in that game. And my character will be inspired from the Move - The Matrix - I will have the knowledge of all the skills and fights. IF the player selected power X for his character, I would have the winning combo of how to nullify the power X. - Kind of an Immortal Boss level but yes, I know many will be eager and optimistic and continue to play to defeat me. 7. Themes? Does it mean the Game Story Line or the Backgrounds? There will be a story Line like they have - a Mission set to complete to move to the next fighter. And the Backdrops will accompany them. This for the Larger version. For the smaller version, you can select your background from the set provided, create your own background also and yes, no story. Just fight on till you meet the Boss.

so you want a fighting game where the players can make their own characters. That promising. So it gave the player kinda make their own game. I think many fighting games tried to have themes to be unique, Lets say Street Fighter's theme is International martial arts tournament, Darkstalkers uses monsters from different folklores, The X-men fighting game sued superheroes, Then Tekken have this anime feel while Mortal Kombat goes for the darker feel since characters kills each other. -------- I heard a standard 3d fighting game cost 15 million dollars to produce but can be finished in 2 years, while a 2d fighter is cheaper (it can be free, all you need is a computer) but it takes 6 years to finish (OMG that is time consuming) so I guess its easier to make a 3d fighter than a 2d fighter. I saw a group of guys who used 2 cheap programs (adobe photoshop and a 2d fighting game engine) to create their own 2d fighter and now they published it. I have an ambition to produce my own fighting game, I only need my money and of course talented people I can hire (since i cant program)LOL There are steps on line how to make your own 2 fighter but Its complicated to study LOL.
