I have many years working in a call center and I am working in one now, I took the day off because I just didn't want to go, I am fed up numbers and sometimes more but it has became so stressful, The pay is not good and it is the same routine everyday,Don't get me wrong sometimes I like it but I just feel like I don't want to do it anymore I don't like being pressured and looked at evil when I don't reach my numbers because believe me happens to all of us we have bad days and extremely good days and we have a bad day we are looked at like we are crap!! I want to try something different where you don't have to reach a quota even though I can I have no problem with it but like I said I have have bad days on the numbers but not very often I just want a mindless job that pays well. L.O.L. And I checked at other call centers and the pay is crappy!! This I don't want anymore!! What would you do?

Many would thought working in a call center is such a nice job. I know that your stress right now. Here in the Philippines working in a call center is such a trend. Because the salary is good enough.

Call centers are nothing but modern day sweat shops. I would discourage anyone from working there.

I feel your pain. I worked in a call center for seven years and hated all but one year of it when I wasn't on the phones. I hated it and vowed never to stay at a job I hated for that long again. At times it was awful and we had sales goals too. I hated selling. I can't sell my way out of a paper bag. I hated how one manager in particular made a lot of our lives miserable riding us for sales. I would sometimes pray before I got out the car to have a decent day. I hated customers calling in cussing you out because their bill is wrong. That's what you got all day long. I stayed only because I had bills to pay and the money was decent. One year I made $52K because I worked a ton of overtime. The other years I averaged a little over $30K so the money was good but I hated the job. I was so happy when they went bankrupt (famous accounting scandal) and closed my center. I got severance for a few months. My suggestion is to start looking for a new job now. Do they have tuition reimbursement? If they have it take advantage of it. My company did but I didn't take advantage of it until it was too late. I took one computer course because I was going to get computer certification. I was going to let them pay for my new career but then they went bankrupt so that went down the tubes. Had I done it earlier like I kept saying I was going to do then I would have been out of there a lot sooner. Good luck and hang in there until you find a new job.

Sounds like the same that happened to my older job I think they were scamming people and had to shut down now I am stuck with less pay, no benefits, no paid Holidays nothing but a paycheck! I have always worked some where like that and I think it is time for a change!! Thanks for your response and wishing me luck! Have a good day!

Would you consider doing customer service jobs from home? I am considering it but only if I can choose my own hours. It's somewhat like working in a call center where you are taking orders and talking to customers. There are places that hire for home customer service. I'm thinking about applying but I don't know what it's like for sure.

It is so typical that we only get noticed when we don’t do what is expected but when we are doing a great job there is no praise whatsoever! I have been where you are for many years with no means of escape. What ‘saved’ me was being able to leave because I was having a baby and have not gone back to the office environment since. I feel so blessed for being able to get away from it and now I am looking for work again but I am going to attempt a business of my own if I can manage it which may be stressful but at least I will be my boss! I would consider putting money aside so you can make an escape and make a change. Not easy, I know but you can begin to feel better just for putting a plan into action. I wish you luck with it; my heart goes out to you.

That is so true and I think 5 years plus I have just about had enough, I took off today again I just said something was wrong with my car which there really is but they don't care and I am tired of everything and everyone there it is so nice to be here at home not listening to their crap, not being noticed like you said when you reach beyond your quota and I mean way beyond you are only supposed to get 15 appointments in a week and I got 13 in one day and it was not noticed, appriciated or anything and I am p...ed!! So they had hired a new girl last week and they told her good job when she only had 3 in a day and got a bonus for it but me been there a year or more and no thanks no good job no bonus!!! So I am at home thinking of not going back and finding something I can do at home!! Thanks for your wishes!!

I am also in this crappy world, thu i am not on sales. I worked with technical, and irate callers that don't even know where to locate the OK or Exit button of their mobile phones (ugh!) The salary is decent good, plus incentives and bonuses. But what i hate the most is,the h*ll i have to maintain that AHT (average handling time) for 4.30 mins or lower than that for every calls. Not to mention the quality assurance giving us grades aside from CSAT (customer satisfaction) where in the E-care has to call the customers asking how we deal with their problem...do we solve the troubleshooting,do they are satisfied with the service provided.... satisfied for service provided and you have to finish the call for less than 5 mins? Are we fooling ourselves,or the company never knew what's going on with the business? They want a satisfied customer,then...they should not limit the time provided to serve the customer...imagine...less than 5 mins to troubleshoot a mobile phone that is not working (crap)

I know how you feel.If it is not the numbers we are reaching for then it could be the boss, the environment, colleagues etc.I quit my job and I am happy for starting my business in small scale because I hate to work under people supervision and the environment did not suit me well.If you do not like your job very much then find other job till you find the one you like.

I always wanted to work in a call center but I never knew it'd be this frustrating. If I were you I would quit the job. It's pointless working a job i don't like and where the pay isn't so good too. i would find a job somewhere else where I think I'd fit even if the pay were bad. I would love to do the work i absolutely adored even if the pay weren't so good.

Well, from someone who has been working in a Call center herself for the last almost 5 yrs. I can relate with this one, and feel it is time for me to move on as well. I do not work for a place that pays incentives etc. if the numbers are up but it always is about the numbers, even if the Cab Drivers are not doing their job as well. It can be frustrating and sometimes seems to be a Thankless job, but I am here until something better comes along.

Yes, that depends up on the season and the time. Some times, you will get more calls than usual. Some times, there will be no calls. We have deal the pressure. I think the call center job is good only for part time.

I never made an attempt to work in a call center because I know that would be h*ll for me. I do not think I could handle the stress I read about that is related to the call center world. My present job however is still all about stress. People come to me mostly because they have problems. Sometimes I wonder why I have to deal and carry their problems! ... We should look for a job that has no stress attached to it.

Try not to let it get you down. Don't jeopardize your current job. You know you are unhappy and need a change, so keep your current job and search for a new one. Take a day off from time to time to keep your sanity.

I agree that working at a call center can be hard and tough. I have worked at a call center off and on and like you I just couldn't take it any more. Especially like trying to meet quota and so on and having people yell at you at all ends of the day. I think that a job working in a call center is for some people and maybe not for others. Maybe that is something for you to figure out. Is this something you want to do. I promised myself I would never get another job working in a call center and now I am working in retail. I think that job is a better fit for me and I enjoy going to work every day. Ask yourself if you want to work in a call center and go from there.

I understand how you feel. Doing the same routine over and over again can really make you sick even though you didn't acquire any. What I like about it, though, is you're doing it over and over that it becomes easy for you compared to other jobs that require you to do different tasks.

I used to be a debt collector. I really didn't mind dealing with the people and I was pretty good and always got my bonus at the end of the month... but I hated the stress of it. I hated going home and being like "ok, tomorrow I need to get this and this...". I also hated the drama that went with it, in the office. I remember one time I accidently called this one girl's account and she was so angry with me! I even apologized to her a few times but she never liked me after that. My job now is definetely not mindless but I don't have to worry about making quotas or the drama!

Yeah I am fed up with quotas and all the drama that goes on there at those places as well!! I know what you mean.
