Texting and Twitter...good grief!

I admit..I hate cell phones. They are so out of control and so all encumbering and I think life was better without them.
However, morbid curiosity forces me to ask...if you can text...why twitter? Why do you want so many people to know every single move you make or fleeting thought that runs through your mind? Why do you want to bother so many people constantly throughout the day? So many problems have been started by something someone "twittered" or Texted...it is on the news all the time with the famous and wealthy and their problems...all "caught on twitter". And I'm sure it happens to those in the real world too.
I just don't get it. Why do people want their lives so open and accessible and all knowing by so many people, many of whom they are not even that close to and hardly have anything to do with.
I just don't get it....

My definition of twitter is this: Sellers selling to sellers.
In other words, it is a place to do "promoting". Stars use it to promote themselves. Everyday people use it to promote their blogs, shops, products, events, political causes, charities etc. I personally use it for my etsy shop. I have made many sales through twitter!

I know people use it for that but still...if I was busy doing something and someone tweeted/text me and I stopped doing what I was doing to read the text...and it was only a "read my article" or whatever to promote what I am selling, I'd be mad! And celebs tweet their every move and then complain of stalkers and crazy fans cornering them everywhere they go...good grief, stop telling where you are! But do they? No. I just don't think it is a "good thing" to have tweets and texts like that. Annoying, yes, good no.

I don't believe twitter is supposed to be as "instant" as texting. If I get a mention (a tweet directed to me or about me) I am not obligated to answer immediately like a text. It is generally not urgent business. It's either inquiries or small talk. No one I know would use twitter as a means of instant communication. It's much more of a networking tool.

Me too. I am proud to say that I do not have a twitter account!
I really hate it when I have to update every single move I do. When I view my friend's twitter, I saw some weird statuses that were not meant to be there. Examples, "I'll take a shower, BRB" , "I'm watching videos now. You know what those are. Hahaha." and the weirdest of it all "I'm at school taking the stairs, I am currently at the 5th step". I was like, what?
I really could not understand a single thing about these things. It's really so weird. Even in texts, there are these so called "gms" or group message. Everything is weird nowadays (even though I belong in the 90s generation)!

I know what you are saying. That's what I mean...what is the point to "twittering" all that? I don't have twitter and seldom carry the cell phone my daughter gave me other than when I have her child...but if someone sent me a twit and I stopped what I was doing to read it, thinking it was important or at least sensible...and that is what it said...I'd be mad! "I stopped to read the text and that is what they say to me?" Not to mention they are probably telling a whole bunch of others the same thing! Twitter and texting...so unnecessary!

Remember Warhol said we all will be famous for 15 minutes. Well, Many are not waiting for it to happen , they are Making it happen by having followers on Twitter. It seems like they Need followers. They Need Everyone to know Everything about them. Me I hate All phones. I prefer email. You say it and send it. It is up to the person to write back or not.

I think it is so stupid that everyone thinks they need to be so completely and totally accessible 24/7/365. Not to mention, thinking everyone they know wants to know what they are doing 24/7/365! I tell people...unless you only are asking for a yes or no answer...don't text me...call me. My kids want to carry a conversation with me texting and by the time we go through about a dozen texts back and forth... I've forgotten what we are talking about cause it takes so long to type and then wait! I'd love to have a snail mail letter!! I sure miss those! But email or phone is my next choice

I love texting. I hate talking on the phone. I hate having to hold the stupid phone to my ear and if you do it in public it's usually just annoying and you get no privacy.
I use twitter, but I use it to share links and stuff like that. I don't talk about my private life at all.
I haven't caused or been inflicted with any sort of drama.
If you ask me, it is not cellphones, or texting or twitter that is the problem. It's individuals causing problems that is the problem.

You are right about all that. Although with a blue tooth, you can talk handless. I hate that tho cause someone is all but talking to themselves while on blue tooth and I turn thinking they are talking to me. And if someone is just walking by...it appears they are just talking to themselves. Which means they are not paying attention to what they are doing, which causes problems for those around them.
But if twitter and texting are the same...why have both? And why tell everyone everything? I just dont get it.

I don't believe that twitter and texting are the same. I like to use twitter as a news source. I don't use it to talk much between my friends. I like to post links to different things that I find interesting. I do not do that with texting, especially since not many of my friends or myself have internet on our phones.
Some people tell everyone everything, some people like to keep more things just to themselves. People would be this way with or without the invention of cellphones, twitter, facebook, etc. At least when they are rambling on about themselves, it can be in text form instead of an annoying voice in your ear. At least you can ignore the text if you don't want to hear about it.

I personally only use twitter to promote my articles outside of that I really don't use it much. I have shied away a bit from texting, facebook and or any sms service really because I really don't have much to put out there. lol
I so communicate and socialize with direct people so maybe this is one of the reason I really don't use the service much anymore.

I don't text hardly anymore at all. I hate having a conversation that would only take 5 minutes by phone but 20 minutes by text! I can accept a comment requiring only a yes or no answer but other than that, I tell my kids...you have my number, call me. And yea... could totally be the reason people can't communicate verbally anymore!

I don't text and i don't sent DM in twitter and i rarely respond to people's post on twitter. I hate facebook but i love reading people's tweets. In twitter i believe there's more privacy. Twitter is mainly for microblogging and it's something that i love to do although i don't tweet everything that i'm doing. It's just a form of expression. I'm there to read what the celebrities are up to and what's the latest updates in the gadgets and things that i need to learn. There are good things in twitter if you only knew how to use it. I get my news update from twitter as well.
So I think it depends on the people who use such kind of service.

Yea, it does depend on how it is used. But so many are so addicted to it. I mean, the celebs tweet their every move...and then complain that the fans always bother them. Well, quit telling every move you make!

I don't use twitter to report on my actions, more as a way to share thoughts and pass on news stories.

I guess everybody is into their own thing. It's almost like saying, "how can a person paint so much?" Whatever their hobbies are, there will be people who just "don't get it!" about it. I personally don't have twitter account & hate "texting". Something about both that feel so impersonal to me. If you have something to say, say it, not post it somewhere on internet or text me about it. I'd rather talk face to face but I know sometimes it's not practical to or possible to meet up so I would say next best thing for me is to call me. As far as texting & twitter & facebook causing problems, it doesn't make sense to me. It's almost like cars killing people. If you really wanna get technical, cars don't kill people, drivers do. All those internet based forums & mediums don't have thoughts of their own. People need to control what they put on them. Same thing with text messages. If people weren't doing what they weren't supposed to be doing, there's nothing to worry about, is there? Then some people go on to post about it? It's their own fault. It's people blaming their own short comings on something else.

I don't text nor do I use twitter, however,I do have a facebook page, but I only have my friends and family on it. I would rather talk than text anyway, as I can say all I have to say everything I need to. I used to text my daughter, and then after awhile we decided that it is much easier to call and talk. Take care, and have a very good day.

But texting or twittering a serious grief or problem...you only get like 127 characters per text/tweet....how much can you say in that little bit of space that will help you? And a response is the same...that little bit of space can't accomodate much to do anything to help. And the dozens and dozens of texts/twitters back and forth.. I have done that with my kids...short little phrases back and forth and because of the short length to use...so many went back and forth that eventually I forgot what we were talking about! If it is serious, I dont' think a cell needs to be the mode of communication...speak in person if possible or at least on the phone where you can state a complete comment or concern.
