The storms missed us last night!

Yesterday they were warning us of severe storms during the night. I did not sleep real sound, as I was a bit worried we would not wake up, it there was tornado warnings. With watching the weather lately, just had me a bit uneasy. There was lots of damage south of us, but we mostly had gotten rain. I am glad, as this morning, lots of schools are delayed, because of storm damage. They are reporting storms with up to 100 mph south of us and showing all the damage. I am just glad that we are safe and sound today. Are you having nasty storms? Does it keep you awake?

hi thoroughrob I am here in Southern California and for a change no weather problems and no quakes or winds or even rain.just Sunshine and mild temperatures here. glad its calm here for once as i enjoy the sunshine. We have had enough rain this year to make our watertables full and running over. so we hope we will have no horrid wild fires this fall like in other years.

I am glad it missed you..we had snow.....tons of snow....I am so sick of snow....the best part about it though is it will melt and doesn't bring devastations like tornados etc....so I'll take the snow however much we get..and be very grateful!

I had to look to see what part of Ohio you are in, because in the middle of the night I thought I heard hail and then very strong winds followed by pouring rain. I don't know how this system went through, I am in south-west Ohio and yet hearing what I heard, I was too tired to get up and check the radar. It wasn't until I signed in this morning that I saw we did have a severe thunderstorm warning and then a tornado watch.. Too bad we can't control the weather so that any bad storms like this won't show up while we sleep, that is what I am afraid of, that a tornado will hit while I am sleeping..

We were under a warning, but it did not seem to get too bad, not damage like everyone else. My son is 16 and in a wheelchair, so my biggest fear is not being able to get to him and get him moved to safety.

Oh Thoroughrob, do you even have a plan? Just in case? Maybe even do some practice runs; that may help lessen your fear of getting him to a safe place quickly.

We've had severe storms here for the past two nights. Last night they said there was the possibility of tornadoes so I added a few things to the basement storm room before I went to bed. The storm woke me up just like the night before, mainly because my dog Gus was trembling, he hates thunder. But no, it didn't worry me. If I had children at home like you do I would be worried! I remember worrying about my sons' safety when they were growing up and watching out for everything and lying awake at night because of bad weather. But I'm alone now, sons are all grown up and on their own and I figure if a tornado comes along and catches me unawares, what will happen will happen and if it's my time to go there's not a thing I can do about it. There's a big difference between the attitude of a mother with kids at home and one whose children are grown and gone. Some people say it's liberating but even with all the worries, I loved life with my kids.

I worry more than I should, probably. I just have this fear that something will happen, and I will not be able to help my son that is in the wheelchair. It is worse now that he is getting bigger. I no longer can just pick him up and move him. My husband is always telling me that I am a worry wart.

That's your job! How do you think children have survived these thousands of years--because moms are worry-warts! You need to devise a plan to relocate your son quickly and practice it with him. Think of ways you could move him, maybe with his help with a bar above his bed or something. Be creative! Once you come up with a plan you will rest easier. That's how I handled it. I even went so far as to put a backpack in my sons' rooms and drilled them on escaping the house with their packs. They each still keep a go-bag handy with clothing, food, water, etc. I trained them well and rested a little easier!

i never experienced storms. we dont have it in our place. i never saw falling trees or flying rooftops or such like. the worse i experienced are strong rains that doesnt stay long as well. im so glad that there's no storm in our city. they say it's because the of the tall mountains surrounding the city. but still i pray for those who are invaded by nasty storms. p[ray for their safety and fast recovery of those affected ones.

We had several big storms last week, resulting in a couple of F3 tornados (but the tornados were not in my particular city). Knowing the tornados were not near me helped me sleep. Because when I know there is a tornado warning in a 60 mile radius of me, I get worried. I've seen too many to not be scared of them.

Hi. Thoroughrob. We have had an thunderstorm a while ago around 3 pm. It started around 12 pm and it was just terrible. Now it is very sunny outside and hot as it wants to be! We have had a thunderstorm today and I hope that we don't get anymore later on at all. I can understand you being afraid to sleep at night due to a thunderstorm. I would be too. When I was younger, I was very scared to sleep through a storm. I could not sleep. I did not want to sleep while it was storming.

Yes, we have been having alot of bad weather to. I had just laid down last night when the sirens went off. I haven't talked to anyone today so don't know if there was any damage around here or not. I'm glad y'all are o.k. I did get back up last night but didn't stay up long. We are blessed around here to not have had alot of damage as many storms s we have had lately.

Well, the storms didn't miss me. 77 mph winds and hail with sideways rain. This morning I saw news reports where we had area-wide damages. Power lines down, trees down and in roadways, roofs blown off, grain bins blown apart and a lot of wind damages. Cleanup will be a weeks-long endeavor. We lost power for a bit but it was restored quickly. I went out to chase down my recycle bin and lawn chairs and fell when coming back up the porch step. Ended up with bruised ribs, elbow and wrist and a stubbed toe. It's still too soppy out there to slop through and get the recycle bin. I'll need it Friday morning so I may have to pull out the boots.

You sound like you live pretty close to me. My husband and I were up until four this morning with the storms, hiding out in the old coal cellar we have in the basement with our four cats. I'm nearly positive a funnel cloud formed within a mile or so behind our house, but I don't think anything touched down. When it formed it was demonic sounding, so that's when I headed downstairs! I read a news article last night on the weather site I frequent that said normally, America experiences an average of 163 tornadoes in the entire month of April. By April 5 of this year, the count was already up to 150. It felt really stormy so far this month because...well...compared to yearly averages, the storm count is phenomenal! Unlike most people, I absolutely adore storms. The way they keep me awake isn't out of fear or anticipation of the worst...more for the excitement. My husband is very afraid, on the other hand. It's funny because sometimes I'll stand on the front porch or the back deck in the middle of a storm, just to experience it, and my husband's normally standing safely inside the house, asking me to get back inside.

I guess we all have seen what severe storms can do, damages to properties and sometimes human life.We too have our's, but mostly heavy rains and strong winds the result is flash floods, landslide and sometimes flying materials that came from a house and others.I know how it feels if you heard weatherman announces warnings/bulletin and other precautionary measures that have to be done just in case you panic sometimes.I'm happy too that your place got only rain.
