Wal-Mart Failed My Coupon Test!

United States
April 21, 2011 11:19am CST
I just got my printer fixed so that I can now print and use coupons again. I was so excited! I printed out the coupons I wanted to use and headed up to WM. Then I was so surprised that they didn't have most of them. I wondered if they didn't carry the items on purpose or something. Like they'd have the brand and almost every type there except the one on my coupons... anyone else been disappointed by that?

Coupons are used to get rid of excess stock, so it seems that they have succeeded! Here, we get leaflets in our post boxes from so many super markets and stores. By the time you are ready to shop, the shelves are empty. Murphy's Law isn't,it?

If that was their goal then they succeeded. I will stick to other stores for awhile though as I get so frustrated with WM..

Yeah, they also like to get you hooked on items and then phase them out. Or raise the price drastically..I'm going to target from now on.. I willjust buy toilet paper at WalMart from now on bc they are the only ones that have what I prefer at an affordable price.. at least this week they did!

This is a very typical issue with Walmart not having particular items. They usually fail me by never having items I'm looking for. Actually, because I visit Walmart so regularly, I've gotten to chatting with the girls who do the free samples. They tell me every week that whatever item their sampling.. the store is totally out of. Now how does that make any sense? Why sample an item if the store cannot sell it? It's not the girls' fault.. they have to do as their told. If they're told to sample peanut butter M&M's this week.. that's what they must sample. But the store should accomodate by having a surplus of that item on hand to sell to the customers who enjoy the free sample.. not be totally out of the product!!

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Well, obviously I am not a marketing specialist, but isn't the point of offering the sample to get people to want to buy the product? What sense does it maketonot take advantage of human's impulsive nature? I thought the samples were so that we would turn around and buy one right then because we like it?!

Well, I have never tried using Coupons much, but I do know a lot of the WalMarts are quite selective in what they carry, and it can be quite interesting for sure. I know that not all of them, even Super WalMarts carry the same products, but to consider that they do not carry the items listed on your Coupons is quite interesting for sure. I know when it comes to prices you have to watch for sure as many of them can be higher than other stores for sure.

You are totally correct about how you have to watch their products and prices. They have their own system and can get you if you do not pay particular attetion at all times!

I try not to shop at Walmart much so I really don't know if they would be out of what I needed or not. I prefer Target but I know that they are a much farther drive for me. I think that Target has a better quality of most items than Walmart does. I do most of my shopping at Kroger and they won't accept printed coupons.

I hear you on that one. I prefer Target any day of the week for sure! I like Kroger too but we do not have one close. We only have Homeland as far as the bigger chains go. I like them and they double all the coupons up to 2.00 so you can get some pretty good deals sometimes.

Sorry to hear :( I never heard of that.. did you ask if they carried the item. I always find my product for the coupon everywhere unless it specifically mentions the coupon is for a specific store.

That's cool, maybe it was just these particular coupons. I don't know I just got serious about using them anyway! They had the toilet paper that I had a coupon for so that was good, I saved a dollar off my favorite brand!

I can't speak for all Walmart stores but almost every time my husband & I go shopping at our local Walmart they are almost always out of the stuff we need. They will have it one week & for the next two weeks or more they are out of it again. It's very frustrating. I would shop elsewhere but Target is just way too expensive.

Actually, if you are careful at Target I have found it to be about the same and a lot better atmosphere that's for sure! I notice walmart loves to get you hooked on an item and then phase it out... that really frustrates me.. I'm heading to target next week..

My local Walmart here in Canada will not accept printed coupons. So, just count yourself lucky that you can use them. I sometimes contact the manufacturer and explain that I need an actual coupon mailed to me to be able to use it....some mail me the coupon, some do not.

That's a bummer. Usually when I am shopping for certain items, I carry coupons for multiple brands of that item just in case. There have been many times a store didn't carry a certain variety, but usually I can back it up with an alternative.

Well, I just got started back into the couponing thing so I didn't have many to chose from. Plus I got them online so they were product (not brand) specific for hte most part.. I'll be watching that closer though from now on!

Yes happens quite a bit of times for me too. I have at times taken the time to print out the coupons and to later find the items are no longer available. Maybe my timing is off. Funny thing though when I forget the coupons at home the store is full stock. *sad*

lol! I have the same problem!! I am going to figure this thing out though. I did get to use a $1 coupon today. That saved a little, but I am going to start shopping elsewhere. i am always so frustrated when I leave walmart.. I really prefer target.
