what makes easter week HOLY?

Every year, there's a celebration of Easter week and for the christian they calls
it HOLY week. I am just so curious how it becomes Holy when in fact it will be just
a family day for most of the christians and with the total number of christians
maybe not even a quarter of it doesn't know the meaning of easter week. AND AM I.
I can even attest to this because most of our neighborhood use to celebrate
easter week not the catholic way but rather they plan for outings instead of
attending mass alloted for the whole week. This leads me to asking
what is makes easter holy???
What would really be the proper way of celebrating this week. Is vacation with
the family the makes easter holy or it has something to do with the bible stories.
I am really wondering what's the reason behind this week being holy...

Easter day/ week, its the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Though it was not specifically mentioned in Bible about the date that God rose, except the day as Sunday, many people consider and follow the given calender day to be Easter. You are right that one is supposed to attend worship service, to offer praise and worship to God. But how often do you think people try to follow what is right and never trespass. You can't make every one follow what is right, its up to every person to decide what they want and how they do, and at the end reap what they sow. So you don't need to worried about everyone, its enough if one is worried about themselves.

Hello there,
Outings and 'eggs' have got nothing to do with Easter. I have never 'celebrated' Easter that manner and i never will. I don't understand what going for vacation has got anything to do with Easter, clearly that is not celebration and that doesn't account it for anybody to consider it as a celebration. It is stupid and ridiculous thing to go out on vacation in the name of Easter. The only thing Holy about this week is that Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins. That is the only reason why this week is so important to us Christians, and i am guessing you already know that. So please do not associate people who go out on vacations or do other things but 'celebrate' the original occasion.

The word Holy means to set apart. In the Old Testament the people of Israel were delivered by God from the hand of Pharaoh. They went into the desert and were set apart from Egypt (which is symbolic of the evil world) in order to worship God in the desert and eventually reach the promised land.
During holy week the Christian sets him/herself apart from the mundane to recount, appreciate, and reaffirm what Jesus did on the cross for all humanity, namely die on the cross for all their sins.

Well,nowadays it is not so holy, but I think it has to be. Everyone is tired and it is something normal to try to spend some time with his family . It is holy because these days are one of the most important days in the Christianity ,and in my opinion we should show more respect about that. In my country, I don't know is there anybody, who doesn't know the meaning of easter week .We all know it, but use the holiday for spending some time with our family and friends.
