help wanted!!

I am a Supervisor at a Court and all of the customers are unhappy. : ) They are either paying a fine, bonding someone out of jail, filing a charge, or seeing a Judge. Therefore, it does not take much for the employees to be considered mean, rude, etc. The employees feel that it is unfair that the customers can curse them and be rude, but they have to remain courteous. Of course I have explained to the employees that we are the Professionals. Any suggestions??

Hi Sheree, I used to work in insurance....auto claims dept. A good amount of the customers that would call us were already wound up because of an accident, an injury, loss of a loved one or something. We were told to never lose sight of that and that part of our job was to be compassionate to that and not to take their attitudes personally. Yes, it was difficult sometimes but that's what we were getting paid for. Tell them that it is part of the job because it is. If they can't handle it then they are not doing their job well and can be replaced.
