The mangy stray dog is very dangerous. It may be rabid, especially if it eats off garbage cans, Beware! no one ever survives rabies because the disease is 100% fatal. My younger son bitten by dog last week, so I want to shares you how to deal with this problem. Rabies is a highly fatal viral infection that can be transmitted from animals to humans. The virus, which attacks the central nervous system, is usually found in the saliva of an infected animal and is transmitted through a bite, a scratch, or even a lick on broken skin or a mucous membrane, such as the eyes, nose or mouth. In very rare cases, person-to-person transmittal can occur when saliva droplets from an infected individual are dispersed in the air. Here are the steps we should take: 1. Immediately wash and flush the wound thorough;y with soap (detergent soap do not use bath soap) and water, allowing the blood to flow freely. Afterward, treat the wound with alcohol, or providone iodine such as Betadine. 2. Seek medical attention at once for possible post-exposure vaccination and wound care at any nearest hospital in the area. Avoid killing the dog by shooting, striking or any other means. restrain the dog with a leash or confine it in a cage. Then observe the dog for signs of rabies. Better yet, bring it to a licensed veterinarian, who will observe the animal for 14 days for rabies symptoms. If the dog dies within 14 days, cut off the head and place in a sealed, leakproof plastic bag or container filled with ice. Submit the specimen immediately to diagnostic laboratory to have the brain examined for rabies. Meantime get immunized while you wait for the results. If the dog is not available for observation, such as a stray that has run away or been killed, submit yourself for immunization. Treatment of an infected person is critical. Untreated, rabies causes a painful death. Patients must go for intradermal vaccination five times - on the day they were bitten, and on the third, 30th and 90th day after the incident. The Medical Doctor may stop treatment after 14 days of observation if the dog remains healthy, or is found laboratory- negative for rabies carrier, the entire treatment must be completed to ensure its effectiveness. Here are the following measures for us to prevent rabies; Have your dog immunized against rabies at three months old at four months old every year. Never allow your pet to roam the streets to prevent contact with infected dogs. Keep the dog on a leash when you take him for walks. Give your pet dog regular baths, nutritious food, regular exercise and clean sleeping quarters. Bring your pet to a veterinarian for regular checkups;refrain from feeding or handling stray animals especially those that appear aggressive or sick.

It is true that rabies kill. And it is good you bring this up because others do not mind being bitten maybe because they still have the option to observe for 14 days and at the same time the cost of injection session is too much high to be reached by those out of budget. As for me once bitten, immediately as much as possible have the antidote to fight it and do not wait anymore for the 14 days incubation time of the rabies to the body of the dog. Even if you are injected of anti-rabies it is only 99% assurance of being freed with the deadly infection.

Right after vinz xyruz was bitten, I immediately bring him to our City Health Center because they said the antidote is subsidized by the Government, unfortunately we are there around 11 o'clock, they have not attended to my child yet because it is high noon and nobody's shoulder the other half of the antidote and advised us to come back the next day. My God, what kind of service like that and take note, they are working under City Government. I just asked them questions before we left, If you were the mother of this child would you be willing to wait another day just to get half off the original cost of the antidote? I didn't wait for their response anymore, I just carried my child and proceed to our car and we went to another hospital and they immediately attended to him. You are right sister, the treatment process is very costly but we had to acquire it to save the life of the kid. He finished 2 doses now, so there are 3 doses remaining.
