Can you convince me?

I've been searching for a good book lately and came across pride and prejudice. I want to buy it but it costs a lot and I don't know if it would be worth it? Can anyone help me convince that this book would be all worth for my savings? would really appreciate your response :)

Pride and Prejudice, and all the books by Jane Austen are clasics. They are worth your money. But I´m sure that you won´t have to spend it and that it will be for free online. Check it. As for me, although I love all of Jane Austen´s books, Pride and Prejudice is the one I like best. I cannot understand that you have not seen a pocket book copy. I have a pocket book of all of them,. I keep Pride and Prejudice in a plastic as I have reread it so many times that it´s falling apart.

All my Jane Austen (I have all of her books) are pocket books. Check again. You might even buy the book online cheaper.

Do you have second hand bookshops in your town? Try them. Yes, there are two love stories and one "love" story in it, but it's as much an examination of society as anything else.

Where I am, there are a lot of second hand books in charity shops as well, but if you're somewhere between Philippines, Austria, Balkans and Oz (any of these guesses right?), you may not have that facility. I was put off "Pride and Prejudice" in my schooldays by seeing it listed as being suitable for girls aged about 13. It's only later that I was told that Prof F R Leavis had named Jane Austen as the greatest British novelist, followed by George Eliot, Joseph Conrad, and one whom I would not want any friend of mine to read. Still, that was not sufficient to get me to read it. It was only when a male, PhD biochemist, Jane Austen fan, colleague of mine offered to lend me a copy that I read it. It's not a bad read, but Austen's understanding of and commitment to real Christianity leaves something to be desired - but then, so does Shakespeare's. For Christianity, outside of the Bible itself, you can't beat Joseph Alleine's "An Alarm to the Unconverted", alternative title, "A Sure Guide to Heaven".

Oh yes I searched for it..we have 3 second hand bookshops here.. And I racked them all up for hours looking for that book coz they don't have a list on it unlike in the libraries..Unfortunately, they don't have a single one..:(

I haven't read Pride & Prejudice yet, but I have seen Sense & Sensibility, also by Jane Austen. I thought it was really nice to read. So I think Pride & Prejudice will be good as well! You can also just borrow the book from the library if you're not completely sure?

I checked it over our public library and they don't have such book..Sense & Sensibility might also be preferable. Thanks :)

You're welcome! Too bad your library doesn't have the book. That's rather strange since it's such a famous one.

It depends. You can read the book online or download a copy for free. But if you prefer actual books (like me), I think it's worth buying. It's witty, incredibly well-written, it has a romantic plot, the characters are lovable - I could identify a bit with the main character, despite her living in the 19th century. I'm really surprised you haven't seen any of the film adaptations, as there have been quite a few. I think I saw at least three of them.

I'm much more of the book-couch-potato than watch it in movies :) It's best imagining them alive by myself than watching it :)

If you really like it ,you are worth reading it .You don't want to care about money.Becauce you can make the money later, but you can not find the itch to read any more.

hi,grazmaniandevel, while i read the story of pride and prejudice when i was in middle school and was deeply moved by the romantic story of the talented writer Jane Austin who have a same poetical love experince.i think that it's worthwhile to collect some world famous and i don't think they will cost you a lot.by the way the movie "pride and prejudice " starring by Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen is worth seeing...i love the peaceful country life and the background music, the plots twists and turns, many times i was tangled with their misunderstanding and not confessing...
