How can I connect my laptop to my TV?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and I've never connected any computer to a TV before so I'm really new at it and feeling slightly discouraged as to whether or not it will even work. I have a Sony TV and I'm trying to connect with VGA I think it's called. Anyway if I go to my Graphics display menu or whatever it has an option for "monitor/tv settings" but when I click on it it says "monitor/tv settings are not supported" does this mean that I can't do this or is there something I can do to connect them. My goal is to be able to watch videos or like netflix from my laptop but see it on my TV. Any help or suggestions would be so greatly appreciated.

Hello roxxtime : have you S-Video on TV and laptop ? In this case, you need only a S-Video cable to connect both. To connect a laptop to TV with VGA you need a PC to TV converter : it is a box powered by USB that you connect to VGA on the laptop and to RCA or S-Video on the TV. It costs 20 to 40 dollars.

I don't have a S-Video connection or outlet on my laptop that I can see but I did look up what you're talking about so I will check that out. Is that the only way?

If you have no S-Video port, can you change the settings of your graphic card ? If there is an option "Output to TV", check it to connect the laptop with a VGA to S-Video cable. Your graphic card has to be able to generate a video composite signal : if the card cannot do it, I don't know anything else than a converter for a laptop. A cable only solution is cheaper and more reliable, but it is not always possible. Sorry, I don't know the model of your laptop, and I cannot help more.

a simple HDMI or a VGA cable will do the trick .... just plug the wire into your laptop and youre all set to GO!
