Are there disadvantages to living on a lake?

I have always wanted to live on a lake with a dock and small boat. I am sure there some negatives to this type of living but I can't think of many so I am asking. I think perhaps mosquitoes could be a problem?

I have lived on a lake for over twenty years and yes there are problems and mosquitoes is one of them..Another pest is the water bug, that look like roaches, but are not as bad. Then there are the horse flies that have very painful bites...I remember when we would go swimming in the lake and when we hear a horse fly coming, we'd all dive under the water. Problem is, even with all the splashing and swatting at this pest, it was stubborn and most of the time we end up getting out of the water. We don't go swimming in the lake now, due to having a irritating neighbor across the cove, but we have a small pool up by the house and even being further from the lake, these pesky insects find us. Another disadvantage is if your home isn't sound proof, watch out, come early morning there are boaters out there racing their boats up and down like a race track..So if you like to sleep in or had a little too much to drink the night before, this can be real annoying... Other than that, I do love being on the lake and though I don't like to go fishing, I love it when my neighbor does and offers us some fish. (My husband doesn't have the time to fish..)

I tried looking up water bug, but the info and pictures don't match what we have around here, so maybe this is a bug the locals just call water bugs due to the lake. anyways, they are bigger than roaches, but don't spread like roaches do or get into our food..Mostly they are found under something wet, like the drain board for the dishes..But they are very fast too, like roaches and don't like the light, so they are just as creepy..

Thanks for the BR, and I want to let you know, the water bugs? They are not real bad, I mostly see them if we get a lot of rain and that is when they start hiding under wet places like the drain board. Plus there is usually only one. I am not seeing them this year, probably because last fall we suspected that somehow the regular bad roaches have come in so we did put something down. So if the water bugs are trying to get in, and they get into the chemical, that could be why I haven't seen any, even though it has been rainy for over a week now..

Surely, if you're a sleeping walker, that could be a risk. Or if something in your house is broken, the water may flood you. Try to not having pets or train them really well. Seriously, those are possible risks even when they sound funny.

But if I were to sleep walk wouldn't the water wake me yup? I am an excellent swimmer :) I didn't follow the rest..what could be broken to flood the house? I guess excessive rains could raise the lake water... I don't understand about the pets either.. My dogs can swim. TY for your response.
