Presidential lecture on silliness...

United States

So Mr. Obama has finally released his birth certificate but not with out a five minute lecture on how silly it is for a nation to ask for proof of a legal factor in becoming President of our nation. I must say I have always found it silly of him not to produce the certificate and lay the whole thing to rest. If he had just provided it to begin with as McCain had done (remember they where both asked to do this at the same time) none of the silliness would have gone on for years now. SO I must ask who is sillier the people asking for legal proof or the man hiding it for no good reason? Oh and this is not about the certificate really this discussion is about the speech so all of the die hard Obamanites and conspiracy jokers who are all about that piece of paper think a little broader please.

I actually always believed that there was real proof and that his being asked to provide it had so much to do with his name and legacy. I believed that McCain was asked only to be "fair" but in all fairness, no other presidential campagn demanded such proof. I remember a comment that Obama made early on that made me think that he was just trying to prove a point. He really wasn't required to show proof to the general public. No other president ever has. I have to make clear that I am not a big fan of Obama but then again, his birth certificate was not on my list of concerns. I never looked at it as if he "hid it" but rather wondered "just why were we demanding it." If you needed that for proof and did not trust that the proper authorities saw the documentation and agreed that he was a legal citizen ...well, look into your own heart. It really says alot. I am anti-government on so many levels but to me this was a no brainer. And then you have to look at the flip side...what if he is not a legal citizen and what if he is in a conspiracy to overtake America. now what? I just cant wrap my head around all this conspiracy stuff.

The fact he wasn't asked..even after a fellow candidate brought it up...along with the Dems forcing McCain to show his...is where the conspiracy theory began. Its funny, if you think about it. Hillary started it all and she's in his administration and a rabid Democrat!

Hillary's was to be fair. They actually had issue with McCain's becasue he was born on a Military base out side of the states. The Democrats wanted proof he was born on the base. If he had been born out side of the base at a local hospital they where ready to fight that he wasn't a natural born citizen. He came right out and proved his legitimacy.

And actually, this all started because of Hilary. During the Democratic Primary campaign, she alluded to the possibility that Obama was born in Kenya, not Hawaii. That's where the "birther" movement started. And he was right...he wasn't required to show his birth certificate, but if he truly cared about getting onto more important things as he said in his speech, then he would have dealt with the issue head on years ago. But instead, he waits until the convenient time of the re-election campaign. And then tries to make everyone else look like the idiots.

Thing is...what they showed on TV said "live birth certification". That doesn't count! But still...for nearly 3 years the country has been asking for it and he hasn't produced it. Now...one man asks for it and suddenly ..here it is. So...he is still trying to cover something, I think as Donald Trump was on his tail about finding the truth and now suddenly he has no problem showing it? Strange and odd! And to me...it isn't even about born or not born...it is about showing the required proof that is requested to be president. Every other one has showed it, why not Obama. And why did he object to it so strongly for 2 years! And why show when Donald asked..and not when others have asked. I t hink he is just trying to downplay Trump so he can campaign against him saying "that is all he was concerned with..." yet it just proves Trump pushes till he gets results and that is what is needed in a president! Trump has my vote!

Could be he was getting to close to something. He is an arrogant man just like Obama... and that's what it took. One narcissist against another. Sorry, I don't trust Trump to much. I will wait and see. But IMHO, we need a man of character as well as pushy.

Yes I too think Trump was getting to close to something and therefore something had to be done to get all off track...and we are aren't we?

It all just sounds pretty fishy to me. If Trump was getting close to something...wonder what it was? I'd love to know. I also wonder if Trump will back off of Obama soon, I highly doubt it though. I don't trust either one of them. I was hopeful when Obama was elected that he really was going to bring some change to the political environment in Washington like he promised. Instead he has become the most arrogant President in recent history! He has no problem talking down to his "subjects" (oh...I mean the citizens of the United States).

Obama in his speech he has watched this silliness with amusement for the past two years. This absolutely infuriates me ......he should have been doing his job and not just sitting back and encouraging this source of amusement instead of showing his damned birth certificate.

k15682, I do not see or feel anything on MY face. We have the right to ask our leaders to prove themselves. We didn't install a king, we elected a president. He's answerable to the American citizens. If anyone has egg on their face, it's Obama. HE spent SOMEONE'S money trying to hide the d@mn thing for two and a half years, and still HAD to show it cause American's demanded it. Not to mention he knew he stood a snowballs chance in h3ll getting reelected if he didn't.

Maybe Pres. Obama was doing his job while he chuckled. He should have been amused, the birther silliness was over the top! So many people cleaning off their faces today.

It was supposedly a copy of the original. It could have easily been manipulated.Besides, what took him so long?People have been asking for this "silliness" for several years now.Of course,Obama has proven time and time again he doesn't care about what the American people want.

Question is; why, if he had this all along, did he post the short form on the internet instead of THIS ONE? Question is; why did he spend all that money on legal fees to keep from having to release it, and suddenly because Trump asks, he releases it? I'm not entirely sure Trump and Obama aren't in cahoots with one another. It's a gut feeling, but won't go away. Even after watching Trump's comments on the matter: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42779923/ns/politics-white_house/

hmmmmmm ? Now you got me thinking even harder! I'm glad he accomplished this. I still won't vote for him if he anounces. Did you see his comments on MSNBC? I posted the link somewhere today.

I do think Trump is is cahoots with some one but not Obama. Not sure who but I do not think Obama would go through all of this just to show a piece of paper he didn't want to show.

To be asking for the President's birth certificate at such a time when he had already won the electoral race and is already holding the position for quite a time is indeed kinda silly. Things like this should be done during the elections. Aren't candidates asked to submit an application for certain positions? What requirements are asked from the candidates to ensure that they are actually QUALIFIED to run for this and that position? I think it is extremely silly and too late to retrieve spilled milk if anything of that sort ever happened. It is the wrong time and the wrong move.

some states are scrambling to get a state law passed to require a presidential candidate to have to show his BC, perhaps THAT is why we are now getting one.

He was asked and refused. He disrespected the American people by his refusal. If it had not been shown it would have been grounds for Impeachment and yes that is a very big non- silly deal.

I agree it is pure silliness that it took two and half years. What took so damn long? Illegals can get this info in twenty minutes. Why did it take him so long?

Yeah, the speech was his normal, "I'm too important for you peasants" arrogance. Once again, he took all sorts of shots at the right, then repeated his much ignored calls for civility. He's still a phony and an elitist oaf, but his birth certificate isn't. :~D

Obama has a long history of treating us like children and ones needing correction at that. Remember, the only reason people didn't like his health care plan is because they didn't understand it. He knows that we would just love him and all he does if we were just smart enough to understand. I don't find it surprising at all that he turned the attention away from the reasons why he would not have answered these questions a long time ago but instead accuse those who asked the question of being silly and distracted by unimportant things. It was important, and made more so by his refusal to answer.

Oh yes the Obama double talk that always ends in his blaming everything on everyone else. The typical problem with most Americans today. I think that may be why so many like him they speak his double talk or at least can relate to it.

I'm with you, O'Lady. (laughing at my abbreviation of your nick, love it, by the way) I always thought it was very silly of him not to release the information. OK, he does not have to prove himself, but how about the Poor Americans who wanted to reassure themselves? I'm even more surprised that he was not forced to release it sooner.

Thanks and as an Irish girl I am loving you abbreviation too! I have to admit I was surprised he wasn't forced to either but I think too many Americans didn't really care so no one bothered.
