is andriod the future??

am using android based smartphone. i believe android if the future market of mobile operating system and has huge potential. as being the huge fan of google, and being them developing it, i think they are developing some awesome application like picture scanner, on air language translation and many more in google labs. do you think android has a chance to stand against giant selling iOS ? or do u think RIM and Symbian will come back with more technologies and user friendly interface ?? i was really happy with Lunix based os maemo of nokia n900 but there was no further news of development which kinda set me down not to buy. do u hope it to develop and release next version ???
