I just heard Katy Perry's ET song with Kanye. I think it's really boring and pointless. It's even worse than her other songs, and it's like she's trying to be unique but it's not working because it just makes her sound like she's trying too hard. I know I'll probably get some hater responses, but so be it.
What do you think of her song and other pop songs? Like Britney Spears, and the comeback of JLo?? the one new person I like right now is Jessie J. I think she pulls off the bad girl attitude, which is not common among white pop singers today. I also like Judas by Lady Gaga. She never fails with her songs.

"One Man’s Meat is Another Man’s Poison" Any form of art will always have admirers and that includes singers. Why else would they survive. Despite the likes of you not appreciating Katy Perry she is still surviving.

Yes, I wonder how long she will survive. Do you think she will last long?

haha you may have a point there. I don't listen to much pop but think there are those few artists out there who are great pop artists because they are good musicians in general. their songs could fit into other genres like hip-hop and rock. those types of musicians make pop good.

I think when I say POP, I mean the popular music we always had that are topping the charts now. Jason Mraz is categorized as a pop artist but he's not that popular! (That's just an example). Some pop songs that are mainstream nowadays are not that good. There are other pop artists there that don't receive as much attention as they deserve, but maybe that's what the music industry will always be.

Music styles go through so many changes. society and the world in general will have the influence to motivate what music is listened to and enjoyed. I don't relly think that popu music is sucking as a whole. it is just hat we take from what we are listening to and what it means to us.@sashakiddo (1102)

I think it's quite catchy.I really like that song but the music video creeped me out
And about the rest artists, they are all talented and loved by millions around the world.I'm not much of a fan of anybody.I just love the music. The music video or script doesn't really bother me that much.

The video seemed at bit overdone and copied from other videos. It made it seem like she was trying to step out of her style and act like other people.

I don't know it's all personal taste, as I hate Jessie J and think she's the one trying to hard with her pretend bad girl attitude, and I think Lady Gaga is just getting worse as she releases more songs. I think pop will always be the "cheesiest" music genre, and have the most critics as well as followers so hopefully soon more stuff that you appreciate will come out!

i agree, pop is the epitome of cheesiness. but to me lady gaga isn't really cheesy. Her lyrics these days have more social messages rather than the typical love songs. I get the sense that she's trying to reach out to people and not just trying to stay in the spotlight. Of course, she wants the fame, but she uses her mind to get it. I find that she's more intuitive and creative than others.

hi!
I think ET was okay, it was nonsense, but catchy, and that's what people like nowadays. I do wish that most popular songs would have more substance. People just take what is given to them most of the time, and there's no definition of our generation. It's all about fad. One day you're in, the next, you're out. Which is a pity. Pop songs of other decades were really good and defined them. Music is supposed to define us, but now there's no identity. That's why we're called GenX.
I do agree with Jessie J. Her song Price Tag is catchy, popular, and more important, it has substance! How hard is it to make songs like that, right? LOL

Really? I didn't think ET was catchy, I guess that's just not my style. I just looked through Lady Gaga's old songs and realized how much I like her music. I'm really impressed that she stays with her own taste. even though she has changed a lot through the years she is still herself. She's always been crazy for attention but she works hard for it, writing her own songs and making people listen to her. I respect her for that.
I really like Price Tag, it's so simple and people just get it.

About KT Perry, her songs top the charts but almost always are forgettable. California Girls was good for a while, but it wasn't the kind of music I'd listen to for a long time. I guess that's another shame of pop songs nowadays. They're forgettable.
I do like Lady Gaga, but I feel that she's becoming weirder and weirder by the second. I just did not get that Born This Way video. Though I love her originality and philanthropies, and the way she acts unconventionally, I can't help but wish she'd revert to the Lady Gaga of her first album.....

I love Katy Perry but E.T. ANNOYS ME to no end... I just want to run screaming from the room whenever it comes on.
I think the reason pop music is taking such a downturn is disposablity and saturation. The trend seems to be throw ten acts that all sound basically the same at the wall and hope at least one of them sticks. There is no incentive for bands to be original, unique, emotional (not to be confused with "emo" which has been blown completely out of proportion), creative... in fact, it is almost discouraged.
If you've paid any attention to my music related posts, you've likely seen the name Kill Hannah. These guys are what the music industry needs to aspire to. They've been "at it" since 1996, never had a "hit" (according to their wiki page, the only single they've ever had even chart was Lips Like Morphine that hit 37 on the U.S. Modern Rock charts), have watched their friends' bands (30 Seconds to Mars, My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte) succeed like crazy and supported them regardless, and they stick with it because they love it and love their fans. Their current single "Promise Me" was released without their label's backing, the video was produced on favors and pennies without filming permits (or their label's backing), and has gotten upwards of 100,000 hits tallying up all the places you can watch it (Kerrang, NME, Nylon and YouTube, off the top of my head). And they are headed back into the studio for another album to be released next Spring with a world tour already in the booking stages. They are the craziest story ever. Awesome, amazing, incredible, have some insane media backing, a song on the Rock Band network but can't get ahead of the game. /end kill hannah geek-out

Some songs are really boring nowadays. But somehow these kind of music is what people like. They like those great beats even though the lyrics or the meaning is nonsense.

I think pop isn't as good because everybody is just trying to copy each other and make songs for the radio. The artists main goal is to make money and not to make good pop music.
