Are Wedding rings measured?

I certainly laugh on the way Prince Willian inserted Kate Middleton's wedding ring on her finger. Wedding rings are supposedly to be easily slip on but William had to pull Kate's Finger and exert effort for the ring to be slipped on Kate's Finger. Prior to a wedding the rings should be measured, aren't they?

Yes, they are almost always measured most carefully but our fingers swell and contract a great deal, mostly through heat and cold. If Kate had her finger measured some weeks or months back, when the weather was cooler, the ring might have been a good fit. In the heat and emotional intensity of the wedding, it is quite conceivable that her fingers had swollen somewhat and that it took some effort to put it on her! Nobody wants a ring that will slip off when the hand is cold, so it is perhaps a good thing that Wills had a struggle to get it on (maybe he should have been warned and prepared himself with a small bottle of Fairy liquid!). Anyway, it caused a moment of amusement, which lightened the tension I'm sure both were feeling ... and that is nothing but a good thing!
