Should US Bases return to the Philippines?

Should Clark Air Base, Subic and Sangley Point return to the Philippines? Let's all discuss the advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I want them all back, so that the good relationship between the two countries will be rekindled. It's a give and take situation. We give the Americans what they want, and they give us what we want and need: US Visas, more fast food chains, better security, more call centers, more dollars for our economy, and more. Besides, whenever disaster strikes, like when Ondoy devastated that area in Taytay, Rizal, who did we call for help? The Americans! It's good having them around than not. Then maybe they'll shoot more Hollywood films here with us Pinoys in it. That's more jobs and fun. Then maybe they'll also turn this place into another paradise like Hawaii. Share your thoughts. Have a nice day.

It's been a debate for decades before the US bases were restricted, that the Philippines be made one of the state in the US or a territory like Guam. Personally, having them back would boost the national economy. It means more national security that not having them around, more investors. When US bases left, our economy went down and took years before we recovered. What did they do in the US bases, they needed investors. It's a goo thing that Richard Gordon did a lot for Subic. People in Olongapo were able to recover and had a new source of income. WE always seek assistance from them, they do help us even without asking them. The foreign relationship is still there but it would be better if they US bases would come back. I agree with you it would mean more job opportunities and more income for the Pilipinos. It's not being a patriot, but with our debts and deeply rooted corruption even a century is not enough to eradicate corruption and for us to recover.

There is always going to be a reason that countries think they need to help. having a US base in the philippines would be a way of lencing supporet to the cause.

At this point of time, I dont think USA is very eager to set up military bases again in our country even if we agree 100%. The great recession have taken a serious hit on US economy, so now the people there are talking more about cutting expenses rather than setting up more bases that for sure will costs their taxpayers more money. Americans are also weary about the still ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, taking toll on many American lives and again, public expenses.
