Hi there, last thursday morning, I went on a job interview since my friend told me of a job opening at his work. I was there for an hour or so. The interviewers liked my resume and thought i was a best candidate but also were planning on interviewing more. Then that after the interview was done, I went home and then wrote a thank you letter. I did give them a FYI a note that I'm going to be on Philippines trip from June 7 to June 24. And at the same time I was doing volunteer work prior to not hearing about this job. However, a few hours later, I get an email and voice mail. I got an offer acceptance letter and I did sign and emailed the signed form back and accepted the offer and terms. However I told them that I may need more time to start because i did have commitment on volunteer on the days i would originally start working. I did email and call the manager /vp back and asked if i can start on may 19...so that i can give time to tell the volunteer work that i just got a job. they said if i get a job, i should tell them right a way...and i heard the company that offered me a job, want me to start asap to see if i'm right fit for their company since i will be given a 3 months probation. They can work around or accomodate that i am going on vacation on june 7th to june 24. I asked if i can start after i come back to the trip but the said that may be bit late and not sure... Then i emailed and gave a date when i want to start which was may 19 to give me time to tell volunteer work that i wouldn't be working there anymore and that i got a job.. I also haven't stayed long enough to volunteer but i also would like to still volunteer once in awhile...though its part time that i did that. when i emailed the manager/vp about the job offer / position that i wanted to start at may 19 , he said he got my email and said oh okay and that he will give me a call back if that's possible in a few days regarding if can start on may 19.. Does that mean I still have a job with them and that i'm hired with them? I'm not sure what's gonna happen? Will they call me back to approve it? Since i got conflicting schedules.. i just hope all will work out. What are your thoughts?

My opinion is this: If he said he'd call back, the offer is still open (since they've sent forms and you've signed them) but you may have to start when they want you to. I don't know all the legalities but that'd be my assessment of the situation. If they do want you to start immediately, you'll have to do it to keep the job. You could ask if you can get time off to finish up with the volunteering (and your holiday) but bear in mind you'll be on a probationary period - it could affect their decision to keep you. It'd be worth asking for clarification on the situation once you have an answer from the manager. Don't call again for a couple of days or he might think you're harassing him and get annoyed. Let him decide where the company stands and get back to you (or, if he doesn't, you could call in 4-5 days, for example). Once you know how things stand you can figure out what to do and check that your probation won't be negatively affected by the conflicting schedules. Hope it helps.

Hey there, thanks for your response. I got their job offer acceptance by email and filled out the job acceptance offer letter and sent it back by email. I just hope i can deal wit the conflicting schedules. They did say they want me to start right away but i have to message or email my volunteer work so they know the situation about if i have a job. I wonder if the person/vp/hiring manager will call me back as he said he would when i last called him friday. They said if i start after my Philippines out of town trip - that'd be too late to start. But i gave a date on when i want to start which was may 15. Maybe i should tell them I start on May 15 instead of May 19 or something like that. I also told them that i wanted to tell the volunteers ahead of time so they know i have a job offer. Anyway they said they can work around or accomodate about my out of town trip since they accepted me the job offer and that i accepted it. I barely started volunteering and I do want to help volunteer and asked if they do weekends. i haven't heard the response yet. Another thing is i had another job interview on friday for a company called vector marketing.. since i was looking for part time incase something happens to the job offer for full time at the job that i got interviewed at... hope all is well.

I didn't get the job. It happened that the company decided not to move forward with the situation.
