I've noticed recently that alot of movies in the theatre are sequels. With the recent Fast and the Furious 5 and Scream 4 I have to ask myself has hollywood run out of new ideas?

The thing many people forget is that Hollywood, or the making of movies, is a business and as such a business wants to make money. So if the studios see that a certain movie was popular and made a profit they will look to make a sequel to capitalize on the success. At the same time other studios will notice the same thing and whilst unable to make a sequel will make a movie which is similar. As for Hollywood running out of ideas, well maybe they are struggling but if you look beyond mainstream cinema there are some very good, original movies. But the big studios don’t risk their money on original ideas because they can’t be sure they will make a return on their investment. And so because the big studios dominate the cinemas we get the money making movies that they make rather than new, exciting and original movies. Do I get annoyed by this, well yes because I hate the constant stream of sequels, remakes and similar movies which get released each year. But at the same time I understand why they do it because they are delivering the movies which the majority of movie goers seem to want and in doing so are keeping their businesses going.

That is one reason I nearly quit working for Rainy Day Studios which is located in Portland Oregon. They are doing an internet series called Wordgirl Advance which Lord willing will be on You Tube in 2018. I wanted to make an old school Lexicon Justice League but they told me that cliffhangers and to be continued stories are the norm today.

That is what I have been thinking since I have seen some super hero fans who have created some wonderful original characters on the Devianart and Archive Of Our Own sites. I know that it will snow in Lake Charles in the summer when my original characters Donna and Debi Isthmus who are identical twins and their close family friend Panama Squirrel make it to Hollywood.

You know what, that is why they have to continue on with sequel, because they are running out of good idea on new films. With new film tryout, they losing money out there. But with once best selling movies, they can continue the sequel, and attract more customers coming to watch it. That is the safe selling point.

I don't think they have run out of ideas since they are still making sequels which require ideas... Unfortunately these ideas aren't that good since I have only seen really few movies that have good sequels.

Yes, I have noticed that too, unending sequels and all. I like some of the sequels though- since some movies make really good ones..Fast and Furious is a fun movie, I loved all 4, but Final Destination just got to stop... Sometimes Hollywood just wants to make money so if the first one was a bx office hit- they make more..

There's been talk of this for some time, with all the superhero conversions and their sequels, plus Harry Potter and all the others. There are still some great, original films coming out but a lot of them are overwhelmed by the big-budget marketing that the unimaginative films can afford. I guess it's because the first films are successful and people like the characters? It's certainly easier to produce a sequel - less work on back-story, no need to introduce the characters, etc. Something I noticed in a similar vein is that books also seem to be going this way. I dropped in at the library to pick up some new material to read (Sci-fi, fantasy) and just about every one I picked up was "Number x in the y series". Finding a stand-alone story was virtually impossible! Personally, I'm hoping for a follow-up to RED and dreading a reoccurrence of the pile of poo that was The Expendables. (Although the title is one of the few that describes the film's quality... )

Well thor is new and looks good, Even though it does seem like it has run out of ideas, Especially since they have a new pirates movie, Which I could care less about seeing along with the movies you mentioned. Though transformers 3 i am looking forward to seeing. But what do you expect isnt every summer pretty much like this with a few new movies to watch.

Well i am sure that they will never run out of ideas or movies just won't come will they? I am kinda curious myself about how they will turn out to be. The movies are really awesome and i can't wait for the next parts to come out. Basically i just love the ideas which hollywood implement! Cheers!
