Back Pain - Any relief in sight

I wanted to start a discussion related to back pain, specifically lower back, and sciatica issues. I have been to a few classes and doctors to get an idea of how to remedy a situation and prevent further problems. Mostly everything seems to come down to strengthening core muscles and proper stretching. Does anyone have recommended websites, stretches, and/or exercises that help with lower back issues?

you may want to try injections or nerve blocks in the lower back. a pain doctor could do that and might work wonders. Take care.

Hey bomydog! It looks like you are getting quite a bit of really good advice! I don't think I can add anything to it. I would certainly lean more to chiropractors than doctors for the mentioned reasons. I have trouble with lower back pain too and don't have a clue what to do with it! I use heat a lot and hat seems to help but that isn't best in every situation of course. I would like to know some stretches to help too. I do try to lay down and stretch out a time or two a day and that may be helping a little. I can't do it when it first starts though because it's too painful at first and I can't get up out of the floor easily!

I think every back pain is different. Have you thought about accupressure or accupuncture? I got relief from accupressure when I had severe shoulder/back pain and after a few treatments, I no longer have any problem like that.

I highly recommend going to a chiropractor if you can afford it and yoga. Some good positions include: child's pose, cobra, chest expansion, backwards bend. The plough is my favorite, but it might be too hard at first. Here is a video for the plough. If at first you can't reach your legs all the way back to the ground, then that's okay. Once you get that down, you can take it a step further by clasping your hands behind your head (not under your head). This will allow you to stretch a little further. Then once you get that one, you can take it even further by bending your knees and lowering them to either side of your head. Here is a site that shows some positions, so you can try any of them if you want: http://www.yogacards.com/back_pain_problems.html And here is a video of a yoga tutorial. This girl actually has done a bunch of videos for back pain, so it might help you out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LodlEH6TluM I know that ehow has a lot of yoga poses, so there is another resource. Good luck.

I want to share my experience with back pain because I always suffer that condition especially after sitting in the bus for a long travel and sleeping in foamed mat. What I usually do is do a massage for my back and sleep on a wooden bed without a foam doing stretching backstroke to relieve the pain. I also massage with a menthol lubricant.
