Is it fair that doctors can't make mistakes?

I have been watching a show about mal practice law suits against doctors, and I don't necessarily think it is fair the scrutiny they are under. Every one makes mistakes and no one knows everything about their profession. In any other profession, people do not lose their license or their job if they make a mistake, but doctors do. I understand they have a person's life in their hands and I think they need to be adequately trained, but they are not going to be right every time. One doctor lost his medical license because he was depression and the medical board said he was too mentally unstable to practice. I just do not think it is fair for this person to not be able to ever work again because of this and think these laws are very harsh. But then again, would you want to go to a doctor that is mentally unstable? I wouldn't. But I do feel doctors are held to very high standards that are sometimes not practical. what do you think about the standards doctors have to uphold?

nobody is perfect. anybody can commit mistake. it's just that when it comes to doctors, it is not very acceptable. because what he is dealing is the lives of the patients. and all of us have only one life to live. so they must be very careful with their decisions when it comes to prescribing or deciding for their patients.

Hi misc11, Everyone of us commit mistakes, even me and even you. Sometimes we can't really predict things happening on us, we may fall on wrong procedures and wrong beliefs. In the case of a doctor, They already oath to their self that they need to save life and not to kill life.. Even though we can say that we are all human and prone to commit mistakes. As their profession, they must not commit mistakes and they acquire their license because passed the standards to be a doctor, to save life. And being a doctor they are ready for what will happen to them, they choose that profession with full knowledge of what will happen to them. There are so many lives that depends on them and in just a wrong move they can lost it..

Hi, yeah,I think ,for the patient,,it's fair that doctors can't make mistakes.. But if they make mistakes,,,they also should be forgiven.. That's it...it's a special job...Now every job can make mistake, and people who maike mistakes should take responsibility for what they have done..

humanely if someone makes a mistake, regardless of profession. however, the problem is, how someone is correct his mistakes. yes indeed, the standard of a doctors should be upheld, because this profession involves a human life.

In my opinion, doctor is a good job. Many doctors around the world live a better life than usual because of their high income. While they should also shoulder more responsibility. For this reason, once they made mistakes, they should have more serious pulishment.

Well, I don't think it's unfair to put them to such high standards, to be honest. But I think they need to be extremely prepared for the fact that they WILL be heavily scrutinized and it is a choice they will make by going into that practice. We have to have as close as possible to perfect doctors because lives are literally in their hands. That depressed doctor may escalate to the point where he's extremely depressed, slips up during a surgery and kills a person. You know what I mean? I think that we should be very nice to doctors since they're under such pressure, but we rely on them to keep us alive.
