Tax on miles driven - Government would track your travel

It seems that the Government is considering a tax on miles driven. It is not clear if the gasoline tax would be eliminated (Governments rarely eliminate a tax).
What troubles me is the government is looking to raise more money to provide for "Transportation Spending". To me the gas tax raises enough money to take care of the highways in this country. The problem is that more and more of the money is being used for mass transportation. It bothers me that gas tax money is being used to provide up to a 75% subsidy for mass transit. The Gas Tax was one tax that I felt was an almost perfect tax. The people who used the roads paid for them. Now states are taking 50% or more of the gas tax to provide mass transit, bike trials, walking paths and shelters for bikers and hikers. Now they want to tax us more to provide more services for free for people to enjoy but pay nothing towards it.
Just something to think about is who pays the gas tax and who benefits from it. The people in rural and suburban areas pay most of the tax and the people who live in the cities get the most benefits. Another interesting fact is the people who voted for Senator McCain live in rural and suburban areas while the people who voted for President Obama tend to live in cities and Urban areas. A little political payback?

This will definitely penalize those who are working. My hubby, for instance, drives about 35 miles to work and 35 home again. Gas is already too high (because of taxes!) and now they want to tax us on how many miles we drive?
Think about this....
Many people have vowed not to fly because of the intrusive TSA xrays and pat-downs. But if they're going to be taxed for driving, will they drive on vacations or will they stay home? Won't that hurt the tourist industry?
I think they want us all to stay in our own little neighborhoods.
About that high gas prices....
Our news today said that the price of oil went down today $10 a barrel. But you can bet the price of gasoline won't drop much.
And, lest we forget, the oil companies only get 8% profit on average. But the federal government gets 28.5 cents on every gallon and the states get theirs too - 61 cents per gallon in California I read.

This tax is to make sure that you do not go on any vacations other then what you can walk to. It also penalizes those who live in outside communities or bedroom communities and travel to the cities for work. Obviously Obama and his minions want Americans to stay where they are, to work in their own area, and stop working elsewhere as well as keep them from taking trips for any purpose out of their towns and cities. Are they going to restore the small neighbourhood stores or the general store within walking district, no? Will they restore the milk delivery van, or allow people to call for groceries and have them delivered or make grocery stores and other stores in walking district like they would in the cities like New York?
Of course not.
Oh and by the way the cronies of Obama as well as him and his family would be exempt from this tax. Sounds like the Soviet Union, does it not?

I think this idea started in Oregon - I remember reading about it awhile ago. The problem I have with it is that they have to track your vehicle to see how many miles you drive. Where I go is my business and certainly not the government's. I don't have anything to hide, but it's the concept. Also, according to the piece I read before, millions of small electronic tracking devices would have to be manufactured and paid for by a government that's going broke. I don't know how long it would take them to break even, but look at their track record.
Taxes will go up one way or the other. I'd prefer to keep what little remains of the myth of personal privacy while they do.

I was listening to Mark Levin show one night when I was driving back home with groceries and he was litterally stating the gas tax on his show for every state.
here is the site if anyone wants to know what their state gets.

We all need to keep informed.
I live in Florida and even Disney World is seeing a slow down of vacationers. I know on the news awhile back they laid off some workers. Sad when you cant even take your family to one of the happiest places to go for vacation!
