In Christianity according to the new testament Mary was the Mother of Jesus of Nazareth and at the time of His Conception. how can Mary mother of Jesus, a mere human being, be the Mother of God? Many Non- Catholics point to this fact in trying to downplay the importance of a Blessed Mother in Christian life, In fact, many of them seemingly use this to justify Not giving the Blessed Mother the RESPECT and veneration that Catholics give her. Is Jesus being disrespectful of His Mother when He calls her "Woman" ? as such are we supposed to follow. Does Jesus calling Mary " Woman" connote a certain level of disrespect? The answer is NOT!.. Simple logic will answer this. Jesus, the son of God gave this one of His principal commandments " Honer Your Father and Mother" Do you think that Jesus, who is God will Contradict Himself and not to practice what He tough? Who gave the command to honor father and mother, will not Himself honor His own Mother? Whenever Jesus calls Mary "Woman" therefore He exalts her by, pointing out to us that Mary is the fulfillment of the prophecy and promise that God made at the very beginning of human history. Have a nice Sunday!:)

this simply means that when you pray to Mary, you should have to pray Joseph too... by that.... balance is achieved.....

Mary was just a "vessel" of God to fulfill His promise. yes, mary is the mother of Jesus in human form but not in the family of God. Whenever Jesus calls Mary "Woman", He connotes His Supreme Authority over her to point that He is the Son of God. we could show respect to Mary but not to worship her.

and how about St. Joseph??? why is it no one conducting a prayer for him???? even in the holy rosary, i can't even heard St. Joseph's name? he is still a foster father of Jesus and a wife of Mary..... i might be jealous if i am St. Joseph.....

Mary might well have been the Mother of Jesus, even as Josephwas his father figure. All Mothers are Blessed, so there is nothing remarkable in this. Every Mother is a woman so there is nothing disrespectful there. Jesus was a Great Master, and was not.(is not) God. Its general Knowledge that there is only One God! How would we know what prophecy or promise made at the very beginning of human history, we only learned to speak 30,000 years ago?

Jesus is not a fable and what He prophesied 2,000 years ago is now happenning. Read Matthew 24: 3.

The answer to your question is that Jesus was not the Son of God. Jesus never claimed to be the son of God. He never required his apostles to worship him. Jesus always prayed to God. The night before he was put on the cross, he was praying to God to take the bitter cup away. Jesus was only a messenger from God, to equate him to God is disrespectful to God himself and his wisdom. The concept of sonship of God came from St. Paul, who had never even met Jesus personally, he only claimed that he had a dream of him. Trinity gave birth from St. Paul. You can never find the concept of trinity in the disciples of Jesus. There's a lot of questions to be answered to support this belief of Jesus being son of God. My question is, how come the early christians did not worship Jesus, if he was the son of God. Also, when Satan talks to jesus and says to worship. Jesus says, no there is only one to be worshiped. I do believe in Jesus, but only as a great prophet of God. Nothing more. Peace to you all

I want to correct you for something about this, friend. The words "Mother of God"...because our Lord Jesus Christ, is not God. Because Jesus itself teach us who is the real God... Read repeatedly the Bible and you can't that Jesus, is God. Because Jesus Christ, itself when he is ascending to heaven. He is sit down beside the Father (God)...

I was going to post something similar to Adoniah's post. So I guess I will just say I agree with this and also Jesus wasn't God he was the Son of God. As he even states he is the son of god and refers to God as his father but after this Council and then latter King James it would be hard to really know what was or wasn't in the Bible because in both cases the Bible was changed to fit the needs of man at the time. Have a nice Sunday too!

as a Christian, of course, we should respect Mary and acknowledge her being the biological mother of our lord Jesus Christ..but, we shouldn't worship her like the the catholics do..they claim they just "respect" her..think about this, you love your parents so much..certainly, you highly respect them..but, do you put your parents' pictures in an altar and put candles and flowers around it..? it's way beyond "RESPECT"! that's already an act of worship! we shouldn't worship any human being..everybody should know that.. about Jesus calling Mary "woman", not every word that comes out from the mouth of Jesus is originally his...sometimes, God, the Father, speaks through our Lord Jesus Christ..so sometimes, when Jesus speaks, it is the Father who is speaking..
