Anyone ever add crochet to fabric

I have some extra fabric not enough to make a top, and I thought maybe adding crochet to the top. It is a simple project. I am going to gather the bottom and sew it to the crocheted section. If it comes out good, I will make other summer tops like it. So, have you done anything like this or use crochet edging for other fabric projects.

my roomie's mom is always crocheting tops to towels and giving them as gifts

I've never made them but I would like to learn how to make them. There's often a lady at the farmers market who is making them and selling them I think she usually wants around $7 for one.

I see the towels with the crochet top often. I mostly see them at the flea market.

You are braver then I as I have never tried anything like this. Sounds very interesting though...you'll have to show us a picture when you finish!

I have not made it yet, but definitely will add a picture when completed.
