Malinga's bowling action

Malinga has overtaken the previous record holder RP Singh as highest wicket taker in IPL cricket. His action though is legal according to ICC rules, is the only action of its kind. One can hardly notice much difference in the action from a throw from the field at the stumps. Yes. His accuracy and speed made the batsmen grope to meet his balls. And what is more, the need to score big in short game invariably brings in cross bat technique. The batsmen perish, either lbw or clean bowled by his yorker length balls. The other day I observed another bowler (I forget the name) used similar action and got a wicket. I wonder in future if cricket bowling action changes.

Actually Malinga is not the first one to ball like that, if you remember the action of legendary bowler Jeff Thompson ,its the same.To ball that way you need lot of practice and hard work also large amount of fitness. To ball accurately with slinging action is very difficult as compared to bowling with regular action so Malinga deserves all the success and wickers which he is getting. To ball yorkers a bowler has to sling to get the ball in the block hold accurately, most of the bowlers do it .The other bowler who did it recently which you mentioned that you forgot was Vinay Kumar if i am not wrong, he got the wicket of Chris Gayle by that slinging delivery. At Junior level coaches does not encourage youngsters to use slinging action that is because in case of such bowlers ,their playing career is of short span.Bowling slinging balls at pace will surely cause the body to break down no matter how much fitness drills you do.Prime example of this is, Shaun Tait who has slinging action has retired so early as he is struggling with his fitness, also Malinga has already taken retirement from test cricket only at age of 27 and he is not sure of playing next ODI world cup for Srilanka.

Hi grudubey i think malinka will done this. because he is a great bowler and he have a great and extra ordinary bowling action. and one of his quality is he always maintain his bowling speed and yorker in all pitch so the batsman who faced malinka's bowl will forced to go back to dressing room

his action is wierd but as per the rules it is legitimate.as per the future bowlers the action requires enogh accuracy and difficult to master so i dont people will go for that action as they might not adapt well and it would be difficult to bowl well....though i must say it would be tempting.

he just throws the ball from the face of the umpire.that straiten his deliveries .but, creats confusion for the batsman.straight arm bowlers are dengerous to play with.every ball is a misile.because most of the batsmen never played this type of action before
