Nowadays Vampires and werewolves, creatures that use to exist in horror movies and stories are now romanticized and sexualized in movies. Before they scare teenage girls on their bed time now because of those books, movies and Tv serials, Teenage girls want them as a boyfriend. there is a time where people are afraid of mermaids but mermaids became a staple of romance stories long before vampires and were wolves.
There is also a time where fairies and elves are used for horror stories but they were used for romance too. but Vampires and werewolves are the most current staple of fantasy romance nowadays.
What horror creature/folkloric monster do you think will work for romance movies/novels?

hi!
i remember how girls and gays alike swooned over legolas in the lord of the rings. if every elf will look like orlando bloom in person or legolas as a dashing elf... then i believe elves can be romanticized and even sexualized in movies.
however, in the usual local movies, elves are usually portrayed as little beings in green garb with long pointed ears and hauntingly little voices. and often portrayed by less popular actors.

true, in local movies there is no clear separation of elves and dwarfs. unless you would really look at the universal description of each character. but in local movies they were portrayed as one.
legolas only had a few moments screen time but the moment he appeared swinging thru the elephant/mammoth-sized rampage shooting arrows... it made every girl and gay's day alright. hehe

i remember while watching Lord of the rings with my family, my sisters, cousins, nieces , aunts and the then housemaid, were all screaming how handsome he was, I guess elves must make a movie comeback since i'm so sick of teenage girls obessessing about vampires and werewolves.
This may sound weird, do you think a zombie can be romanticized, you know a vegetarian zombie who retains his human intelligence. he will just have grey skin but he wills till look attractive for the ladies. I dont know if that can be pulled off but guys got turned on with blue aliens and catgirls.

I think you confused elves with dwarves, Elves were always tall but due to have similar ears they confused the heck out of me too before.
I remember how many girls got their hearts broken when orlando bloom decided not to be blond ever again, since he wanted to escape Legolas' shadow. Elves might make girls forget about Vampires and werewolves once and for all. I have enough of seeing lots of Vampire and werewolf romance stuff everywhere.
----
With the Global fanbase catgirls are having from men even outside Japan, why no one is making a live action catgirl movie yet.

So a girl will fell in love with a spirit with no head?
I got inspired to do this because Koreans were able to romanticized one of their monsters which is known for eating Human liver (nine tailed fox)
]
Then Japanese people have a thing for catgirls (women with cat ears, its part of their legends)
Guys thinks mermaids and fairies are sexy, I wonder if a Manananggal can be romanticized...
have you noticed guys have more options, Mermaids, Angels, demons, fairies ,catgirls, Nine tailed fox, white lady and some alien princess.
Girls only have vampires and werewolves...

I remember a comic book (its not romance though) While a manananggal who is good and not evil, tried to find some pig for her to eat, as we know they abandon their lower body while theyw ere flying.... A guy r@ped her lower body, so she ends up being pregnant, a manananggal who is a single mom.

I can't see it working with Zombies.
although I have seen a book with a Zombie as the romantic lead, so maybe there's people out there more peculiar than I.
amusing point about how most sexualising of paranormal creatures is for mens benefit.
I have a book where there are pages and pages of spells to protect against an incubus. for protecting against a succubus, just the one, and it seemed very much a half meant effort. haha.

So if Zombies wont be for you, What creature might work for you? I think the easiest answer would be a warlock. The smell could be the biggest turn off for sure, i guest girls prefer vampires because they use perfume, and Elves looks so clean like they have shower every 4 hours. I dont understand the werewolf obession though, they are most likely to be smelly when not in human form.

I guess there is only one spell againts succubi because guys dont mind their presence...
Event he bible mentioned that demons are beautiful creatures, The horned creature stuff is just a gimmick of the church so people will be scared of them.
Yeah there paranormal creatures that were romanticized and sexualized for men. In case of women, Its only vampires and were wolves, maybe ghost and elves might count.
The list of monsters and mythical beings romantized and sexualized for men are so long.

Hmmm this got me thinking, i might come up with something original..but honestly.. i cant! we already have hot vampires...sexy wolves... handsome elves ( oh yes i swoon over legolas for weeks back in college) , we have hot yet weird pirates ( Jack SParrow!!!).. so really i cannot think of any other character from book or what.. unless we go and look into Philippine folklore...we believe in "mananaggal" that half bodied lady who fly around at night looking for pregnant women ( but then it cannot be romantic for her because how could she do "it" if she is half bodied? or something like that..) and we also have those "tikbalang" or those half horse half man.. or i believe they are called centaurs - saw them in Harry potter. hahahha
oh and zombies? but they look gross.. bloody and all...

People find mermaids attractive but not really on centaurs though they have fit bodies on their human parts, I never saw a girl who is turned on with a centaur or a man who thinks a centaur can be sexy, Unless there will be some story where a centaur can have human legs but thats too Mermaid.
Philippine Folklore at least have Engkantos and dalakitnons, they were attractive and they wear vintage clothes but despite of their beauty, they were extremely creepy.
On the other hand, Koreans were able to romanticized a Gumiho, a creature known for eating human liver.

Bestiality is not my cup of tea, so I would not like to meet a centaur or a werewolf. A winged monster would be interesting, but a human looking one, like a fairy. I think that we can have also some romanticized aliens : what about a handsome blue alien... with a lot of tentacles

do you think that will make the panties of teenagegirls and single moms drop? I'm very sure though it will make them scream in terror.
Are Pixies and fairies the same? I think Nymph can be sexualized easily though they were known to drown men. An undine is romanticized in my country before.
