13: Either I will be very lucky or very unlucky

Philippines
May 12, 2011 9:03am CST
Tomorrow is Friday the 13th. My earnings have recently updated into ?.13 . 13 -- that number! Who said it was an unlucky number anyway?? My friend said that 13 is actually a lucky number. My seat number when I was taking a very important board exam was 13, and I passed! Maybe I'm just looking into things too deeply, because I was thinking of that number (because tomorrow is Friday the 13th), and then myLot suddenly popped that number! I am a superstitious person, but I try to think positively and shoo away whatever badluck there may be. And if I can't shoo it away, then take it as it comes, there will be a better day. n___n

Hi happycaprice Take it as a coincidence and your user name says it all. Continue being happy and positive in your life and ex out any negative thoughts and you will be okay. I have had bad luck in my life and I simply think it is just that bad luck. Nothing really to do with a date and or planned era. Be well and say to yourself, ha not me I will not allow such affect me.

I think 13 is a lucky number to. My pin number in work is 13 as well. They asked if I wanted to change it and I said I would keep it. I have been there seven years so far without major mishap. What I have come to realise is that we are lucky or unlucky according to our beliefs. Supersitions are beliefs and what I feel to be true is that if we believe that thirteen is unlucky then we create a self fulfilling prophecy. We tell our subconscious mind that something bad happens on Friday the thirteenth and our subconscious mind creates situations or we see events that confirm our belief. I do not know if you have ever wanted to buy something different from everyone else only to find after you bought the item that there are a lot of people who also bought this item.
14 May 11
Thank you for your reply. To answer your question of my experience of buying something different. I had this car and I was looking for a new one. Driving on the motorway in search of this new car the engine cut out in the fast lane of the motorway while overtaking another car. It was tipping down with rain at the time. I said out loud, this car is going, that was the last straw. Luckily it was quiet at that time of the day and I was able to get onto the hard shoulder next to the inside lane. When I got it started again I took the first exit off the motorway and for some strange reason I drove past two or three garages that sold cars. I was just leaving a village when I came across another garage that sold cars and pulled in. There was this beautiful white Citroen car there. I hadn't seen one before. To cut the story short I bought this car and all I saw after were citroens everywhere. By the way it is the best car that I have ever bought, I would not have swapped that car for anything if it hadn't worn out.

I agree. We can trick ourselves into believing such things. And that's how fooling ourselves could be beneficial to us, some of the time. While I was taking my exam, I thought, to have a seat number of 7 would be a good omen! Instead, my seat number was 13. And I didn't let it bother me. After all, I know I studied! My friend said it was a lucky number after all, and I believed it. However, I don't attribute my success in that number at all! Thinking of that number as lucky was something to boost my confidence more. I have not experienced buying an item I thought was unique, only to find out everybody else bought it. What was your experience on that?
• Philippines
16 May 11
Hmmm....I definitely don't remember having an experience like that. But I have other experiences when the things I do coincide with things I encounter. For example, I have recently finished a book which I thought to be not very well-known. When I browsed my flickr account that day, there was an artful photo of books, and one of them was the book I recently read! Thanks for sharing this! It kind of connects with the concept that whatever your mind is thinking, the universe will give it to you. Maybe the Citroen car was foremost on your mind, and your mind automatically notices Citroen cars, making you think that it was common....:)

As a Christian fella I consider 13 to be a very lucky number in reflection of the 12 apostles and Jesus..13..In that light I can see why some folks might disparage it tho..Enjoy!

I thought so too! When I look at it that way, 13 should be considered lucky. Instead, people attributed 13 to be unlucky, because Jesus dined in a table of 13 people in the Last Supper. :D

yeah, 12 seems to be much more complete. Imagine learning in class about the 11 apostles...:D

Hi Caprice the Happy Well, dates are dates and of different significance to different people. Believers of numerology and their studies reveal the same dates working different for different people... Again, it is psychological for many - as they say - A Battle well begun is half won. The same here - if you are pre-conscious that this is a good day, things go fine and the same may go to the not so good if you think - oh, so today is this date... Each morning get up with a smile and a feeling - You can - and there is no date or anything that one should fear about Whew! that was a small summary of a long research for my healing these days... May I get a hug

HUUUUUGGGGGG!!! :D When I woke up yesterday (which was Friday the 13th) I actually forgot what date it was! hahaha ! But it turned out lucky after all. I haven't been thinking how it was supposed to be an unlucky day, so I went ahead with my plan to hunt for books, and I had pretty good finds! I wake up every morning thinking, I wonder what will happen today? And, let's go attack the day! I find myself being ready for whatever happens, and the day usually turns out good. Of course there will be bad days, but I try not to let it get me down. I sleep it out, and I feel better afterwards. :D

For me 13 is so dear number and a date. Coz its my hubbys birthday. I dont believe there is luck or unluck with numbers or dates. Its just how we take it and believe it. I understand your fear, when i was young, i was same like feeling and worrying on dates, astrology and others. I later studied myself am going down in energy in fearing all things around me. Now I can face any situations boldly removing all my negative thoughts and beliefs. Life is short, face good or bad boldly as only you can change the fate with your positive thoughts for sure. Cheers.

While younger I was a very negative person, could not help it because my surroundings were such a bad environment. As I got older I began to think how my negative thoughts weighed me down. I do have my moments but as soon as I remember that I am the only one harming me with negativity I try to reverse my thought. Happy Birthday to your hubby and hope you and your family celebrate a lovely day!

I also like studying astrology, those bad luck and lucky for the day. But I focus more on the lucky things, actually! I don't know, but it seems I automatically tune out the bad things. Well, not exactly tune out, but I take them as it is, knowing I can still change it. Like hardworkinggurl, I was a negative person. I worried excessively, and I do still worry from time to time, thinking I have no control. When I do that, I try to put things in perspective, looking for things I can still do, and accepting the things I can't. Being optimistic, knowing there's a solution, makes me feel light. :)

I didn't know it's Friday the 13th today. We have been more anticipating our salaries to come by today, (actually we were expecting it yesterday) and we weren't disappointed. So I guess, It's a lucky Friday since we have our payday. On second thought, I may not just be lucky. I realize money would just pass my hand to pay for bills.

Everything happens for a reason. I agree it is better to look at the positive side of things. It makes life more bearable when there are more positive things that you see than the not-so-good ones.

IN the end, it would still be lucky, since you got the salary, right? Everything in life has a good and bad side to it, so I think it's better to focus on the good! :)

Hi happycaprice! Whatever one believes it to be, will be. I mean, if you believe it's a bad luck, then it'll probably be bad luck to you. You'll attract negative things because you think it's a negative thing. If you think it's positive, then it's positive. That's what I believe it to be. Those that believe Friday the 13th to be be bad luck, I think it's too superstitious. It's just a myth. Something man made up to scare people. As for me, I treat this day as a normal day. It's just like any other Friday. But sometimes I ride the flow and tell myself that this is a good day to watch horror films because fear is stronger. I'll enjoy watching horror films more.

hello! It's like what I said with the previous box, we can fool ourselves into believing whatever we want to believe. As for me, I believe F the 13th could be unlucky. It's like thinking, when it's Christmas, what gift will I receive? When it's F the 13th I think, I wonder what bad thing would happen? :D That movie, Friday the 13th must be the culprit of it all! hahaha

personally, i don't give any stock to the number 13. i am not superstitious at all. there is no evidence to the idea that 13 is bad luck. things happen in our lives both good and bad. i wouldn't base that on superstitions. the best to you.

Thank you! Yes, good and bad things happen. That is a fact of life. Being superstitious or not could also affect one's life. We may not be able to fully explain why that is so, but regardless, good and bad things happen. :)

Hi. happycaprice. As long as I have been living, this day has never affected me badly that I can ever think of. I am glad that it has not affected you too. See, when you think positive you get positive, regardless of the unlucky day, such as Friday the 13th.

thank you! i try to treat this day like any other day. But also somehow differently, because I wonder what bad thing will happen that day? It's not like I totally expect that a bad thing w0ould happen. I just thought it would be amusing if I can find something that I can attribute to F the 13th. :D

All I can say about Friday the 13th is that it was an extremely lucky day for me in 2009. February 13th in 2009 fell on a Friday. I was terrified because I had a hearing before a Social Security Disability judge on that day. I had been fighting Social Security to get disability for 7 years at that point and was becoming extremely discouraged. Then, when I get the notice that my hearing is on Friday the 13th, I almost wanted to call them and postpone it. But, I went anyway. Even though it took me another 8 months to finally be approved for disability, I WAS approved and it all started with that hearing on Friday the 13th. So, it's total superstition about that being an unlucky day, at least in my life. I honestly think that luck is what you make of it, good or bad, and we can actually bring about bad luck if we're convinced that it's going to happen. I'm an optimist, for the most part, so I don't normally have unlucky days.

Waiting for 7 years is indeed frustrating! I can't tell you how much slower the judicial system in my country is. So I'm glad that you found hope on Friday the 13th!:D I agree, luck is what you make it. Generally, when one thinks positive thoughts, one attracts positive reactions. Thank you!

I was born on 13th Sep and so far I guess 13 has been lucky for me. It is said that 13 is lucky for some and unlucky for some others so I guess I fall in the former category. I don't believe in such things as 13 having any impact on my luck but I just treat it like any other normal day and I guess you should too. No worries!!

Just stop thinking about the jinx, though it looks like a sign due to some crazy coincident, Its better for you to not let its negative energy affect you. Its kinda that for friend its and its actually a lucky number. Just have that similar mindset, Or how about every number is a lucky number so no number can jinxed you. then start thinking black cats are lucky too. A positive mindset that will remove all that negativity in life.

What fun a superstition thread! Friday the 13th doesn't take into consideration TGIF! So there fore TGIF cancels out the number 13! Numerology would have you add 1+3 to make 4 which I understand is a GOOD number. Astrology must have some numbers in it, aligning planets and moons and all. So look up your horoscope for Friday, check out the numerology for 13, do a TGIF for good measure and throw a bit of salt over your shoulder, knock on wood and decide to have a good day. Go Fridays! of any number.

I agree with you! TGIF is the best! Go Fridays indeed! :D 4 is also one of my favorite numbers. I looked up the numerological meaning of 13, and it says it is a number which cleanses and purifies. So that's good! Poor 13, to have such a bad reputation when it had good qualities itself!

I also believe 7 is my lucky number! Well, it's my favorite number but it has only been lucky for me once (because it rarely shows up in my life). It is believed to be the perfect number. And also, because 3+4=7. You see, each number has a meaning. I think 3 is the number of masculinity, and 4 for femininity, add them up, you gain the perfect balance. :D
• Philippines
16 May 11
I'm sorry. I got it wrong. Three is considered as a number for masculinity, it is also a number for creativity, and magic. Two is the number of femininity, the moon and duality. I learned all of these long ago in homeroom. In general, odd numbers are associated with (+) and masculinity, while even numbers with (-) and femininity. I was thinking of 6+1 = 7 being the perfect number, I remember my teacher saying that 6 was the number of harmony (physical + spiritual) and that 1 was the number associated with God. How they came up with these meanings in Numerology, I have no idea. But it's all fascinating. :)

13 has always been my lucky number. it's the date of my birthday it's the name of my favourite ever album. and there are 13 Lunar Months in a year. it's a good number. and friday is often associated with success in Love. so better still.
• Philippines
14 May 11
I didn't know that Fridays were associated with success in love. I wonder how that came to be? Spike earlier said that Fridays were considered unlucky (for some). I guess it all depends on the perception of the one who started that superstition. I also think now, that everything has a negative and positive side to it. So that's good news, a positive thing is better than no positive at all.

I think numerology charts can help you more with which numbers are suppossed to be lucky for you according to your birthdate. I think you should trust in whatever numbers the stars have choosen for you and not worry too much about superstitions about te number 13. I am sure the number is lucky for some.
12 May 11
Friday 13th being unlucky is an amalgam of a lot of traditions and superstitions. 13 is "unlucky" because 12 has always been considered a "complete" number - 12 days of Christmas, 12 tribes of Israel, a dozen, 12 months in a year, 12 hours on the clock and so on. 13 therefore breaks the completeness of the number. There's also the Last Supper, where there were 13 present (Jesus and 12 disciples, the 13th person being the traitor Judas). A coven of witches is also normally 13, which the Christian tradition dislikes and, of course, persecuted for ages. Friday's been a bad day to start things for centuries. New projects or journeys shouldn't be started on Fridays (by superstitious belief) and history has loads of nasty things happening on that day (stock market crash on Black Friday and so on). In the Christian tradition, Jesus was crucified on a Friday, too. Put the two together and the day's supposed to be bad. Personally, I've never had any better or worse days - it's just Friday to me.

14 May 11
Thanks for this info Spike! It makes one think that people put too much thought in unlucky/lucky things. When I think about it, they had to have some explanations for things, and they turned to superstitions, like linking the number of people in the Last Supper with bad luck. And also, with Friday too! I thought people loved Fridays! New projects shouldn't be started on a Friday.... I think that's because people look forward to the weekend on a Friday and they won't focus on the projects to be done. :D And Jesus being crucified (regardless of what date), should be lucky for us! :D My Friday the 13th was actually lucky. I found and bought the book I wanted to read!
